I weaned my 14 1/2 month old son just over a week ago. The first 5 days I wasn't engorged, no pain, nothing. Then I got my period and my milk supply went crazy. For two days now I've been pretty engorged. It has been quite painfull. I've been doing cabbage leaves and taking advil for the pain. Yesterday I hand expressed a little bit and noticed the milk was clear. I dipped my finger in it and tasted it and the milk was really salty (yeah yeah if you think it's gross, I don't want to hear about it!). Does this mean I have an infection or is it normal for the milk to go salty and clear when not being used anymore?

I had mastitis once when he was just under a month old and this feels nothing like it. I remember having a fever of 103 and having a red streak up my breast and it was really warm.

This is just a throb and a full breast.

Your milk is going to change now that you are not needing it any more . Salty and clear is normal but here's something to think about. Frist of all, tasting it will take the guess work out of wondering about infection, so will your milk turning green. If you think you have an infection, go and see your Doctor. have you tried a breast pump? If not, you should, You would feel a lot better if you did and you can pick one up at your Pharmacy. This would stop most of the pain that come from being full. Last, Some women will never stop leaking under certain conditions when sexually aroused and excited and what flows out is a bit salty. The is very natural and should not become an issue for you or him. Good luck.

Take a really hot shower and let the water run on your breast! This will help with being engorged! Your milk has changed bc your not using it anymore! If you start to pump it will come back!! so unless you wanna go through this again dont pump! they should be back to normal soon!!
