No it won't hurt it.

There is no wear during DVD use. It is simply a laser reading ridges. You could leave it on pause forever without damage to the DVD

If you put your DVD on pause for a few minutes or so, it won't damage. I've done it for a long time, and my DVD was fine.

No, in fact some of the kiosks in stores etc stay in pause for hours on end. Sometimes days.
A few minutes wont harm a thing.

no usually dvd players have a limit time in pausing for the purpose of not easily damaging the laser pickup of the unit, if in case you accidentaly left it on pause.
