The salt in the air stimulates your taste buds, which in turn stimulates your appetite - if left without some yummy morsel to munch on you may end up with a churning tummy as the taste of salt has told your tummy to get ready for food and so it produces the acid and digestive movements to cope with this.

If you live by the sea these feelings are usually coped with as you get used to the sensation.

hope this helps!

Living on an Island I do not find that sea air does make me hungry.

From observation though, the environment that you are brought up in distictly effects your physiological attributes.
As an example: when I visit the mountains the different air that they have compared to living at sea level does make me hungry. I reckon it has nothing to do with the air, but the difference to what you are used to.
