Shopping for schl clothes excursion!!! What a nightmare. I had to take along my two boys (9 and 5) and my 7 year old daughter. The store was jammed with mothers desperate 4 a bargain. The little one was squealing at me incoherently, my 7 year old girl just wanted everything in sight and my 9 year old boy was "dying of hunger." There were people shoving, pushing, swearing, yelling !! That was it, I snapped !! I just broke into song, full blast of course.
"Oh I hate shopping, I haate shopping, I haate shopping, sooo much. !!!" I did it to the music of "Oh come all ye faithfull".
Yes, I did. The crowd in front of us parted like the parting of The Red Sea!! My 3 kids all stopped screaming and started squealing with laughter. My little girl was yelling how gross and mad I was. The crowd were all gawking at me in horror. Know what I said? Ripper, tks guys, flashed them all a great big smile and sped straight through. That was fair, I thought. Wot thinks u lot???

Hi Minx,
taking a 5,7,&9 year old shopping is equivalent to madness at the best of times. doing so duirng the chirssy holidays right before school starts for the year here in Aus is asking for bedlam...
I learnt pretty darn quickly not to bother taking the kids for the majority of the shopping I only took them for the part of shopping that they needed to be there.... ie for shoes.... we went in to the shoe store bought the school shoes and then went for a snack and drink and then home...
I usually chose a day when the shops werent neearly as busy tuesdays are good....but not if straight after a public holiday...
though I do remember when they were very little and I had to do grocery shopping and had no one to look after them. I sat them down and explained we were here for groceries and that I get to choose the groceries because I am the grown up and that is how it works.... I told them if they started whining, asking, begging, or carrying on at all we would just leave the store with nothing....
they carried on and we left the trolley right where it was and went home......
the next day I explained the whole thing to them again... and we went to the store and again they started carrying on.... I stood in the aisle holding the trolley and started singing out louder and louder..... I want I want I want I want..... Mummmmmmmmy I wanttttttttt..... the kids burst out laughing and then stood there aghast while passersby stared at their weird mother....I kept it up for several minutes until the kids started saying Mum... come on ... that sounds awful.... then I looked them straight in the eye and said..... You are right carrying on llike that is just silly.... now can we get back to our shopping ???
and so the shopping got done.... we had a treat on our way home and all was well once again....

Try shopping in July when prices are way down and your kids can get a heads up on things without having to bring down your budget. Also, for winter clothes, shop on superbowl Sunday. There is no one in the stores because they are all getting ready for Superbowl and there are "great" bargains.
Yeah, I think you are crazy, too. Not that I haven't done my share of craziness. My kids are older now and shop for themselves, then put it on hold and I go pick up what I think is acceptable. They have figured out what I find acceptable and it's a nice middle ground where they get what they want and I get what I want. IN the mean time avoid all that stuff now and go out shopping when the crowds are thinned out. I also shopped less often with all three kids when they were little. I took one or two out with me, max, and they were fed beforehand. I'd leave the other with grandma or dad and after dad passed away, I found a good day out care program for a couple of hours. Anything to help your sanity, your kids sanity and the sanity of others.

Well, provided that it was all legal and above board and you don't do it every time you go out - good on yer. I remember when I was about eight years old reading in the Reader's Digest an anecdote sent in by a man who'd been sitting on the top deck of a bus (this is a very old story!) and he'd looked down into the street and saw a young woman, alone, who's obviously seen something she thought was funny and she was laughing out loud ... and, he added, he wanted to stop the bus, grab her, and take her home for his son to marry. I loved that story: it spoke of the woman's autonomy, perceptiveness, freedom, etc. (Nowadays we'd probably wonder what she'd been taking - times have changed).
So I pat you on the back.

Well, I think you're my new hero! That sounds hilarious. Wish I'd been there.
Meanwhile, I've got some tips for sane shopping, and the first one is get to the store early when nobody's there and everybody's fresh and chipper and the dressing rooms aren't a disaster. Check out more tips at the link below...

Ok, it was just downright wierd, LOL!!!! but if it worked for you, great! I mean, you did nothing wrong. I hate school shopping, too. It's the worst. But I tell my kids, ok, we're here for this, don't ask for anything!!! I never give in so after all these years it works pretty good. I have never broken out into song, though. LOL!!! Good show! :)

Try shopping online. Most of your favorite stores has online shopping websites and if the clothes don't fit, they allow you to take them to the store to return them instead of having to ship it back to return them.
