I got my cat September 5, 2006 and my mom just started sneezing a couple of weeks ago. Can you develop allergies to a cat after you`ve had him for a while. But she is also allergic to flower pollen and thats it. And it is winter so that could not affect it.

Yes. I recently had an allergy test done and I am allergic to EVERYTHING except for food including, dogs, cats, horse hair, tobacco smoke, pollen, dust mites, etc. To be sure, she could go to an ear, nose and throat doctor and get a skin prick test to see if she is allergic and how to control her allergies.

your mother's continuous sneezing may be a red flag fr animal/cat/fur allergies. you say that she has pollen allergies, which means that she may be prone to animal allergies. if the sneezing is severe, especially during allergy season, along with itchy and watery eyes, then it is most likely allergies. sometimes it takes a bit to actually discover that you are allergic to an animal, like a couple months, noticing that when ever you hold the animal you sneeze and have itchy eyes if you know what i mean. when someone is allergic to a cat, they truly aren't allergic to the cats hair alone, but rather the proteins present in the dander and saliva of the cat. Ask your allergist about immunotherapy for animal allergies. Immunotherapy, or allergy shots, may be the treatment of choice if you cannot realistically reduce your mom's allergy to the cat with special filters or vacuums that are said to get the dander out of carpets and furniture. good luck!!!

Anything is possible. We lose our ability to fight of allergens over time. It may possibly be the dander from the cat that is bothering her.
Let her doc decide what the allergy is to. A simple allergy test can determine the cause(s) of her reaction.

Its possible, but if shes just now starting to react to it then i'd think it was something else. Maybe shes coming down with a cold or something. Good luck!

Ask your mom to sniff some pepper...that should take care of her allergies.
