The statement is based upon that person's own view of what constitutes a "real" atheist. They are imposing their own narrow definition upon a wide spectrum of different personality types.
I like the testimony of one converted atheist who tells of the turning point in his life from unbelief to faith. He said that it happened when he was at a meeting of atheists and the speaker who was in front of the assembly decided to give God a chance to prove that He existed by striking the speaker dead for his life of continual blasphemy. He dared God, if He really existed, to strike him dead in the next three minutes and if He didn't do it then that would be "proof" that He didn't really exist.
So they all looked at the clock on the wall and after three minutes the speaker triumphantly declared that he had shown yet another "proof" that God didn't exist. The person who gave this testimony said that it was at that point that his faith in atheism was shattered because he realized that every person in the room wasn't really an atheist since they were all waiting to see if God would strike the man dead or not.

Man ('christian', atheist, or otherwise) are as a 'god' whether they presently admit it or not. Therefore, they can make whatever rules they want (for themselves). That is present part of the temptation for 'Christians' also. It may have to do with why Jews and Christians have the '2 or more witnesses' rule; Jews Deut. 10-20, Christians Matt. 18:16, 2 Cor. 13:1.
The Lord bless thee, and keep thee: The Lord make his face shine upon thee and be gracious unto thee: The Lord lift up his countenance upon thee and give thee peace.

This question gets asked all the time-I and I'm sure other atheists enjoy debating religion and philosophy because it's an interesting subject. Why is that a problem for some believers?

I think the person means that they don't believe in god or religion and are content with this. As a result they don't need to prove or justify they're belief nor do they need to put down or discredit someone else for theirs. That's just my take on it. A bit of live and let live.

Who knows? Atheists on this site tend to believe that all Christians want to do is take away human rights and merge church and state. It's a sad generalization.
The Christians I know are working (and financially supporting) human rights and social rights. Moreover, I don't want the state in my church, nor do I think my church needs to be in the government...to much opportunity for loss of focus.

I believe this to be true, I know some real athiests, they wouldn't be anywhere near this site. They are out living, working, and raising families like the rest of us, and they are good persons. I think the "athiests" on here are not quite convinced, and are still undecided. Sorry if I have offended any athiests. Peace.

That's true. I don't have to prove anything at all, or disprove anything either. It's the one who makes all the fantastical claims about the Big Daddy in the Sky who has to prove it.

I have seen some atheists say this, but I have also seen many atheists say that they want to "enlighten and educate" believers in God. Many of them say that the burden of proof is on the believers, but if they truly want to "enlighten" believers, isn't the burden of proof also on them? It goes both ways.

Because they are curious people and they wonder alot. But some also try to prove to themselves that it is right the choices they have made in life.

They are here because their mom and dad did the deed.
But if you mean why are they here on Answers, its because they want the discussion, and the chance to air their views, not because of a need to 'prove or disprove'
