My mom wants to get a dog. We were at the park recently where she met a French Bulldog and it was love! Very friendly dog. Mom is in her early 60's, in good health, she lives in a condo. I want to buy her a Fr. Bulldog for her birthday. Is this a good breed for her? Are they hard to come by and are they very expensive?

Frenchies are such nice dogs!

They are expensive because they are usually birthed by C-section, and only have 2-4 pups.

They are also known for some health problems so make sure to buy from a show breeder who does health testing on her dogs. It may cost you a bit more, but will probably save you money in Vet bills over time, not to mention spare you heartache later on.

All dogs differ in their personalities... there are just as many nasty bulldogs as there are nice ones. I don't think they're horribly expensive, but probably somewhere in the $500-$1000 range for a good quality puppy from a decent breeder. I know that a lot of them have respiratory problems because of their head/face shape, and that's usually worse in hot weather, so that might be a consideration. If your mom is in her 60's, she probably won't want a puppy, at least I know my mom didn't. Try www.petfinder.com and see if you can find a local rescue for that breed. They'll have younger and older dogs, but puppies are harder to come by. The plus is that you're saving a dog's life, and that most are well trained by the time you get them. The cost is a lot lower too... Our rescue puppy's adoption fee was only about $100. Get her some dog supplies and wrap them for her birthday. Then take her to the rescue or their website and let her choose her own dog, since she's the one that has to live with it!!!

Yes, a bulldog is a very friendly dog. Since she is in early 60's, in good health, etc. you may want to have her look at a Pug. They are smart, smaller and easy to care for and take with her when she goes. Both dogs have some of the same qualities.

The "Frenchie" is easy to groom, requiring just a daily brush and rub-down with a piece of toweling to make its coat shine. The facial creases should be lubricated to prevent soreness. this breed should not be exercised in hot weather. Makes a delightful companion. It is good-natured, affectionate, and courageous, and usually gets on well with children and other pets. Owners must become accustomed to its gental snuffling, and be aware that it will invariably wander off and sulk on the rare occasions when it is in disgrace. It is a gental and peaceloving. The distinctive "bat" ears and a natural screw tail. I think it would be a great first dog... and a great dog for your mom.

I think a French Bulldog would be a great gift for your mom. Just make sure she knows you are getting it for her, just in case she doesn't really want it. Also, she may want to be there when the puppy/adult dog is choosen.

if bulldog is in the 90% you should go for it. i would let your mom pick out the dog though. for her birthday get her a leash and collar and then take her to the breeder or where ever you are going to get the dog from. good luck!!!

Is it your moms dream dog? But i personally think that if your mom liked it so much that would make a good dog for her. But if you get one for her make sure it doesn't bite because you dont want to bring home a biting dog as a b-day present but i think you will come by them maybe in a newspaper or at a shelter or maybe somebody is selling them. But i guess they would cost maybe from 300 to 600 dollars

Yes obviously if she seems to love this breed then by all means get her one . I know here in fla where I live they go for about 2500.00- 3000.00 . They are rather exspensive here . good luck with whatever you decide to get her .
