My three-month-old Yorkie just completed her shots and can go outside now. My concern is that, although she has a coat, that its still too cold for her..what is your opinion?

If, when you let her out, she plays that's fine. She'll want to come in when she gets cold. Trust her instincts.

dogs react a little differently to weather than we do as humans. that have a thick coat during the winter time which will allow her to be warmer. if you are worried about her being cold out side put a coat or a sweater on her only when she is outside. this will help keep her organs warm while she's using the bathroom and playing and exploring. when she comes inside you need to make sure that you take the sweater off because she can become very hot, causing her to be dehydrated as well as matted. the mats may possibly not brush out and the only way to take care of it is to shave your puppy at the groomers. then you really will have a cold puppy. just trust her, she knows when she's cold and when she wants to come in or go out. good luck and enjoy your new baby.

Dogs should never be left out in the cold, especially really small breed. Small breed are also threatened with predators. I have Chihuahuas and my vet, specifically told me to never leave a breed that small outside without supervision because of ground predators and bird predators. Birds like eagles, falcons, hawks, vultures, owls etc., can easily sweep down, scoop the dog up, and take off with it. It has happened. Alway's go outside with her and let her do her duty, and keep her indoors. Yorkies are indoor dogs also. Also when outdoors, be aware of predators around you.

She should be fine if going for a walk or something like that-not to be left out for long periods of time though. After all, she IS wearing a fur coat.

If your worried about it, then it is too cold, get her a sweater or coat she can wear. Yorkies don't have fur as other dogs do, they have hair so they do get cold quicker then other types of dogs.

By 'coat' do you mean her own fur? If you are concerned just get her a sweater or cloth coat. Don't just leave her out there. Walk her and bring her in with you when you come in.

Damn, I'm a cat person! However, Yorkies look adorable in those crazy dog suits! Meet his personality with the correct suit he may not want to come back in! Saw one the other day with a "Superman" outfit. Girl did I laugh!

I wouldn't leave her out for very long at a time, but if you take her out for about 5 minutes or so. She will be fine. I had the same question for my vet and that was his advise.
