Is this to do with his diet?... He was eating tripe and this had a similar effect...so i put him on burns minibites and they helped but my OH wont feed him this without adding tinned dog meat... I think this is what is causing the problem... (he has tesco's/morrison's own).

Are there any tinned meats designed especially to condition the dog's coat? or any other things that I can mix to the biscuits that will help?

(He's a long-coat chihuahua btw)

No offence but i would never use a shops own brand to feed my dog i wouldn't eat own brands myself so i don't expect my dog too either. I feed mine on winalot tinned foods and buiscuits and this has improved his coat so try that.

The pet shops sell cod liver oil for animals, in bottles, get some, it only takes about a teaspoon a day and your dogs coat will be glossy again, hes probably suffering dry skin due to bieng indoors a lot, if you have central heating on the air gets dry and causes dry skin.

If you want to try a good tinned meat, Hills Science Diet is the best, its quite expensive, but since you have such a small dog it should work out fairly cheap for you, you can get it from the reception area of most vets, and at most pet shops.

Hiya my old dog used to suffer from excema and dry skin which made her coat dull and brittle, a vet once told me to give her a cod liver capsule a day which is good for joints anyway and replenishes the oils in thier skin which helps thier coats, after a few weeks her skin and coat were better than ever, no flaky skin and a very shiny coat, Im no expert but it might be worth a try, the only thing is my dog was a staffordshire bull terrier so quite a bit heavier than yours so you may be able to get capules in smaller doses?? dont want the oil going striaght through!! also i feed mine on bakers complete dried food and this also seems to help thier coats. Hope this helps x

Add a raw egg to his food, great for his coat. The cause maybe the weather, if it is dry and cold outside, a dogs coat will get that way. Also a little say a teaspoon of olive oil to his food will help.

He has dry fur or dandruff??

Actually, shampooing is not the best idea. My dog has this problem. My vet told me to rinse her and just apply coat conditioner. That is the only bath she gets (as long as she doesn't stink). I will also dilute some conditioner in a spray bottle and spray that over her as a final step. This I don't rinse off as it helps with dandruff.

My dog had the same problem
I bathed her in Johnsons pet shampoo diluted a bit of tesco conditioner in water and poured it over her coat and changed her food to tesco dog food esp. tuna in jelly mixed with biscuits only one week later she looks like a silky seal.
hope this helps

Buy a dog shampoo for dandruff or take him to the vets because dandruff in dogs is classed as a skin condition.

You might want to wash him about every three weeks. I think Wal-Mart sells anti-dandruff shampoo for dogs (in the Pets aisle). Also, you might want to include a couple of drops of olive oil to his meal once a day. Dandruff is not normal but not rare so it will be easy to cure your dog. GOOD LUCK!!!

1st thing - no people food please. Feed a dry dog food with a dollop of yogurt with 3.25% fat content & alternate this with flax seed oil mixed into it's food. This should greatly improve it's skin condition.
