just as the bible would predict the love of the greater number of people would cool off and it has,what can we personally start doing to make things better?

Because the Media lead us to believe it's all about matereial possessions. Get it before the other guy. In the end, all of that is unsatisfying. We can make things better if we start learning about one another and genuinely caring about one another which is very satisfying. It bonds us together in love.
