The doctor has recommended i give my 10, 3, 2 year old the shot today, the 6yr old did get a shot before kindergarden. her reasoning was that even though they were exposed, the antibodies would have possibly a week to prepare for the inevitable. she said school should be attended unless signs are present that they have it.

If your other children haven't had chicken pox, then it's best if they stay home from school.
It's also possible to get it more than once, so your other children may even get chicken pox if they've already had them.

If your children are up on their immunizations, then the 6,3 and 2 year old should have gotten an immunization for chicken pox at their 1 year old doctors visit. I would not worry about them as much as the 10 year old. The immunization was not out or widely used 10 years ago. So I would keep an eye on the 10 year old and relax a bit about the other three.

we had a pox scare at pre-school a month ago
Few of the mom's checked it out, they are contagious 10 days before they get the rash and up into the point that they scab over.
The good thing, however, is because of the vaccinations they seem not to get the pox on their faces. And it doesn't last as long as when i was that age. 20 yrs ago.
Good luck, but yes, recommend you talk with health care professional, just to make sure. you don't want to have angry mothers accusing YOU of giving their kids the pox.

It's very likely they will get it from your one child, I know I got chicken pox right away after my brother got it. From what I read siblings usually develop symptoms about 2 weeks after the first child gets a rash. It is contagious 2 days before the blisters start appearing. My mom used to work in a kindergarten, and she said more kids who had been vaccinated against chicken pox got it then those who hadn't been vaccinated. Those who have had the vaccination are supposed to have more mild symptoms though. Best of luck to you.

I understand your concern, the best thing to do is call your Local Health Department, and ask this question there. The Nurse should be able to advise you, what the best way is to avoid spreading the contagion to other children at school, as well as consider the immunity factor, and to have some help with homework if they are all to stay at home. Call ASAP

Well the incubation for Chicken Pox is 7 to 10 days you could send them all to school if they have no symptoms but be prepared ussually they all get it and that is a good thing... oat meal bath and benadryl lotion will help the itches.

Oh if they haven't had the vaccine they'll be getting it. You can be sure of that. Not sure about the staying home part. I'd let them go to school. But, when I was young my Mom would go to someones house for a play date to make sure we got it. The virus is out there, other kids will get it from somewhere.

I would keep them home. They are probably already infected they just don't have the rash yet.
