Iraq's population is approximately 24 million. Of these, about 600,000 to 700,000 are Christian.

In the sectarian violence, in which Sunnis and Shiites have taken up arms against one another, what should the Christians do?
Which group will protect them?
If they should be peacemakers, how?

They should support peace, just as all the Muslims should.

Iraqi Sunni and Shia were neighbors, family, and friends for hundreds of years, until Saddam and his gang of thugs oppressed anyone who dissented with him, including the Shia and the Kurds (who are mostly Sunni, as I understand it). When Saddam was deposed, al-Qaeda quickly sent in special forces to convince some less knowledgeble members of the population that they needed to fight the "infidel" Shia, and some Shia politicians also convinced less knowledgeable members of the population that they need to fight against the Sunni. The fighting has nothing to do with religious differences - it is purely political, with each side supporting their chosen political or military leaders, not Islam.

Iraqi Christians and true Muslims can be peacemakers by being peaceful, speaking truth, and keeping an open mind and heart, and by standing strong against tyranny and oppression by any faction or group.

In the case of sectarian violence, the best thing to do is to get out of the way. If I were a Christian Iraqi, I would hide out until the Shia and Sunni get done shooting a blowing each other up and pick up what is left of the pieces of the nation.

If they have any brains, theyd steer clear away from the ambush of tribal/territorial clashes.

That area of the world has been problematic througout history.

And as political as this may sound, Saddam was a uniting force for the area.

Because the people there have a tendency to fight among themselves, the fear of a tyrant had stopped them from doing that to the full extent.

There are too many differences and sectarian standpoints to keep them united on one land. And, ever since the famous libraries of Iraq were looted and sacked, the people have lost alot of their knowledge and have developed into a bunch who know naught but violence.

The Christians should, whether the government likes it or not, act independently and realize that if their government and a big government like the U.S. can't save them they should fight for themsleves, stand up from the ear and aggression. also they should not affiliate themselves to Bush because he's such a monkey of a president. If they are to be become peacemakers they should gather together their own Christian brothers and exclaim to whatever force comes at them that no matter how much is destroyed they shall stand and then they should all say a solemn and persuasive speech and give it their heart until each nemesis is broken down into his true human nature.

The right one.
Being in a beehive of anarchy doesn't mean you should put your light under a basket.

Mat 5:14 Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.
Mat 5:15 Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.
Mat 5:16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

Should just be neutral, both sides don't like christians. but at least, so far, the one attacking christians are extreme sunnis, while shiites did not yet attack them. so I would guess with the government or shiites. they cannot side with kurds now, because kurds are far aways, and chirstians in kurdistan already siding with kurds, in other parts of Iraq, kurds in trouble too. hopefully no civil war and hopefully Islam destroyed in Iraq. I wish if Iraq dominated by christians, even if catholics. much better.

A democratic government that is a government of law so that all are represented but none force things on the others. Violence and lawlessness being punished.

people don't take sides. They are mediators, bringing opposing sides together and finding a compromise.

the Muslims hate Christians, in all forms, they can't do anything because they have no power in Iraq, they live hidden in their houses or refugees, praying to god doesn't allow Muslims kill them, the best choice they have is emigrate to a christian country, they can't support any part because they simple are going to be treated like slaves or animals, Iran and Hezbollah supports the sh ii al-quaida and Syria support the Sunni, is a Muslim internal conflict, if you are one of these christian Iraqi, follow my advice, go to Greece or Peru or Mexico but don't stay in Iraq, it's too dangerous,
