Make a shampoo by mixing 100 g each of amla (Indian goose berry), reetha, and shikakai, and boil in two litre of water until the liquid reduces to half. Use this shampoo for one month. Dandruff will vanish and your hair will become thick.
or an easier way:
Grind fenugreek (methi) seeds soaked in water overnight. Massage this paste on scalp and hair and leave it for 15-20 minutes. Wash it off with a mild shampoo.

dandruff shampoo is ok but do not use it too often because it dries your skin. dandruff is an excess of dry cells on your scalp. i read a study which described it as caused by a fungal organism reproducing itself in some favourable environments. when we are nervous or tired our natural defenses get weaker, and just as other bacteria which inhabit our body in small quantities, this organism grows in number on the scalp, and there's dandruff.
needless to say that when you scrap your scalp nervously, you worsen the situation.

Use a medicated dandruff shampoo 3 times a week. Wash your hair daily as well. And scrub your head. Massage it with the shampoo in it. I find a fine tooth comb works well too if i run it over my scalp with shampoo in.

I have been told it is not "dry scalp" but more of an oily skin/scalp, therefore frequent shampooing is a good idea. Better yet go to the dermatologist, you can get more effective treatments. I have one prescribed by the doctor made of peanut oil and some type of cortisone to reduce the inflammation-you rub it in and cover for a few hours then shampoo it out. It helps
