Yes. There is no curtains they all look a little different though, you'll get used to it after 6 weeks or so, but why not get used to it right off the bat??
And NO you don't get your own house! If you're married you can get on the waiting list for base housing or live outside the base, they will kick you out of the barracks once you're hitched. You'll live in the barracks, before we got married, my husband shared a room (like a studio) with one other guy. The room had 3 beds and a bathROOM (with just a toilet and a stall, so you DO get your privacy there). The sink was out in the room. It looks just like dorm rooms with lots of loud annoying Marines (in this case).

In basic, yes, showers are a community affair. No big deal. Active duty members can be eligible for base housing. There is no guarantee you will get it. Some bases there are waiting lists. I lived in base housing ONCE and promised my wife NEVER AGAIN. We had a 3 bedroom villa in Sardinia (less than $90 a month...1973-1976)a few blocks from a beautiful beach, overlooking the harbor and Corsica was in view from my upstairs balcony. I was offered base housing, but I would have lost my $300 plus a month housing allowance, and lived among only Americans(other considerations, too). I felt it was a better experience living among the locals (lived in Japanese housing for 6 months...we wished we had never left it).

In Navy bootcamp we had two shower things with multiple shower heads where everyone took a shower together. On a ship you have a similar shower. On shore duty you have your own but you might have to share with another person or two.

Here it is you work as a team and then you clean up as a team, we got to get wet, then turn the shower off, soap up, and then a quick rinse, wasn't much but it really didn't matter as in an hour you will be all sweaty again and then you have to wait until shower time again.

depends on where you go to basic. i went to ft. benning ga. from the army and we got 30 second showers for 6 weeks. then it went up to one minute. usually youre waiting in line with a towel on, you run in when they say go, and have time to wash all your important points. no curtains....just you and 10-20 other naked guys fighting over the shower heads. fun fun!

Group showers, no privacy. This is for males. I don't know about females.
