Unless its a serious problem, a little self-discipline goes a long way. Its like having a cold- you're sick. Try this. Acknowledge your problem to yourself. Ie "I've got depression, and that's why I want to sit on my couch and eat cookies all day instead of going out. Its a chemical imbalance in my brain, and I need to fight that." After all, what do you do when your getting over a cold? Stay in bed until you feel 100%, or go out anyway? If you force yourself to be happy and act normally instead of brooding and feeling miserable, you will feel better over time. The nerves in your brain 'get used to' forming bonds with one another to make you experience a certain emotion. Over time, the pathway that spells 'happiness', or 'depressed', becomes more defined and permanent, so its actually physically easier for you to feel that emotion then any other. The body takes the easiest way of doing something, so when it produces emotion, the most defined pathway is what you'll experience. If you force yourself to feel something else, over time, that pathway will become the more defined one. Think of it like building muscle. Lifting something heavy is hard at first, but as you straighten that muscle, it becomes easier, because your body is getting used to it.

I went through the same exact thing. Everything I did was a chore and I didn't leave my house unless I absolutely had to. I put everything off, including changing cloths and stuff like that. I would stay in my PJ's all day. The only thing that helped was medication. I am not numb from what I take. I take Klonopin. At first it makes you a little tired but, once in your system good, you can do anything such as driving. I still have bad days where I don't want to leave the house but, I have to force myself to get up and go. I'm sorry you are experiencing what I have. By the way, you can get these medications from your family doctor.

I am so sorry to hear that you feel so bad. I went through a very low time for about 10 years so I do sympathize. This may sound crazy but I really did find the answer in Jesus Christ. You need some good friends who will be alongside you even when you don't have much to offer. See if you have an evangelical or Baptist Church near you and show them this message. If they are no good to you, keep hunting. Don't give up. Let me know how you get on. You will be OK. Wol

first of all... people who suffer from chronic depression and ADD usually don't realise it , but ... u might b right.
personally it sounds like u have an over or under- active thyroid ... i suggest going to the doctors and getting tested.
many people think they're agrophobic when, in actual fact they have just got into a sort of routine of staying in r, when they do go out, going to un-happy and boring places.
you should try taking a weekend away and going to a spa or whatever you thing might make you happy .
and where the sleeping is concerned. i think laziness can make people feel depressed , useless and bored. try to get into a regular sleeping cycle . cut out on the day-time sleeping , and ... believe it or not, going for a walk first thing after you wake up , not only makes you feel more alert and happy. (even if you hate walking... like me lol) but it will give you day meaning .. as in you wont feel uve wasted your day

just try these ideas anyway... obviously by the way your making it out, it couldn't get worse for you, whats the harm in trying to make it better??

good luck :D

this is exactly how i feel too .infact i can't believe how similar this sounds. i'm now 26 and have had depression for ab out 8 years now, cause of bad childhood traumas. the last year has been really hard. i don't go out unless i have to. sometimes i have good intentions of going to the shops or even just collecting the children from school but it doesn't often happen.even just motivating my self to do household chores is so hard. since before xmas i've been taking tablets to help. i've started to feel a little bit better but i suppose it will take time. it also puts alot of pressure on my relationship. but he is good and just gets on with it. but i still feel guilty about everything he has to do. i'm sure there will be light at the end of the tunnel. try and go to the doctors for some help. you may have to really push yourself like i do just to even get there. good luck and i hope you feel better soon but i know it's hard.

Over the last five years I had begun to have increasingly withdraw into a downward spiral of depression..

But now with the method I can fully focus my energy and thoughts into a decisive line on how to make my life better constantly. And it works like magic! I'm beginning to attract people to me once again and things have just been looking up since then.

Sure. Find help immediately, you and everyone around you are in serious danger. You shouldn´t procrastinate this time. Make a big effort and make an appointment with a Pshychiatrist or at least a psychologist.
