I've had braces twice -- once at 13 and once in my 20's. Nearly anything can be eaten with today's forms of braces, as long as you take care and chew gingerly at first. Extremely sticky things (caramels, gum, etc.) can be very tricky and may cause a "mouth mess" for you. You also risk parts of the braces to come loose or break. Corn on the cob and whole apples can be troublesome, but, once again, eaten gingerly, it's not completely impossible.

Just be sure to brush thoroughly to avoid any staining or permanent teeth damage around the braces. Keep a travel-size toothbrush with you, as well as some toothpicks. You'll be glad you did!

Good luck!

when I first got braces I had trouble eating meat and chewy candies. but after awhile I could eat normally again- just go with what feels comfortable. also some fruits get strings/pulp stuck in the brackets. one thing that helps is drinking water during and after every meal

O.k I don't have braces but my friend does and you should get wax from the dentist to put on your braces because you have to put it on if it hurts and trust me it is edible.

corn on the cob, hard candy, gum, popcorn, very sugary foods, and you can eat salad, but i extremely dont reccomend it; i get it stuck in my braces and it takes forever to get it out.
