Well, it's actually an ideal job. There is 100% job security (never been a LAYOFF and NOT a SINGLE PRIEST is on Unempoyment), you get to live free or charge (although you have to accept what you get), you get transportation (where and when avaiable), you get meals, you get a stipind (which varies), you generally get a retirement plan. The job is open to anyone with or without a college degree provided you attent a school or otherwise get on the job training.
And you get to practise your religion.

Some people are strong in their faith, and have no problem speaking the truth of the Bible. These people can sometimes feel the call from God to the ministry.
It takes a strong person to stand up in front of a church and preach the Word of God. But it takes a stronger person to preach the Word in the world. Inside the church you have many people that show up that want to learn. Out side there are many more who Christ tells us take the message to.There is a lot of resistance out side the church.

Because they are inherently lazy and don't want to deal with the real world. or they want the god complex where they can feel like they are better than everyone else and will be admired by all instead of dealing with every day issues like normal people. what bugs me is that when they realise that they aren't really divinely inspired , they continue to live their life as a lie, and sometimes think it's ok to abuse kids

I think some people legitimately feel that God calls them to a life in His service.
Its neither a good or a bad thing on its face. Somebody has to lead the church, and if that person is legitimately devoted to helping people, and likes doing it, then who are we to judge?

My priest does it out of love for God and service of humanity. Everyone in our parish can see the love of God in this wonderful man. His name is Philip M Breen.

All jokes aside, many men become priests because they love and want to serve God. And they want others to love and understand God, too.

The same reason as people like being an attorney, a doctor, a crack head, a waitress, or any other profession. They are called to it. It is what they want to do.
