A member of the Irish Tourist Board once told me there were more than 250 in Ireland, and if you add in Northern Ireland it's closer to 350.
There are great courses there. I am particular to Southwest Ireland, where there is a group called SWING (Southwest Ireland Golf) that makes arrangements for play;
I love Ballybunion (Old) course, and Waterville is spectacular. Lahinch is historic, Old Head nice, and normally I spend a couple days at Carne which is north of there but a great golf course.

There are so many holes in Ireland now, they are wondering why the country doesn't sink. (ha ha ) Seriously, each hole is a little gem. Some of the less well known courses are spectacular and cost a great deal less to play. The nineteenth is special at all the courses.
