As far as Modecote is concerned, it is a newer drug with fewer side effects. See this link: http://www.freudianslip.co.uk/schizophrenia.php

And here's what MIND has to say about Tegretol:

Your doctor is doing what he can for your son. He would not knowingly put him on any drugs which would harm him more than his illness already is. Your doctor is helping your son.

I understand it's difficult as a mother to watch a child undergoing treatment, but try to understand that the doctors know what they are doing and have your son's - and your - best interests at heart.

Hi, I took tegretol for a while in tablet form as a mood stabilizer. Not heard of it in injection form but I would guess it is fully possible to have an injectible version. I don't know what Modecote is but I guess it's a depot injection - the injection ensures that your son has the level of medication in him that he needs, so he doesn't forget (or choose not) to take his tablets.

I was v v v poorly from 17, I was v ill and felt suicidal but now a few years on (with continual improvement over the time elapsed) I love life and am so glad that I took my medication and still take it. Good luck to you, Rach

I know it's difficult to believe you're doing the best thing for your son, but all you can do is weigh the alternatives. How bad are his symptoms when he's not on medication? Is the current medication he's on working for him? You can also go for a second opinion to be certain you have all the facts and know about all the possible medications you can try. Unfortunately, modern psychiatry is still in it's infancy and there's so much they really don't know. At least they have medications that seem to help with some of the symptoms of this devastating illness. Your son is very lucky to have you (and you him). Whatever you decide, know that you're doing all you can. Good luck to you both!

well tegretal is used for seziers, so does your son have seziers of any kind? I have not heard of them in shot form, i took them as just pill form. If u don't feel comfortable with what the doctor has yours son on then i would get an other opinion from a differnt doctor, casue this drug does not always work for everyone, some people it can cause a heck of a lot of problems, and i know you really don't want that for your son. I would go and get a secound opinion, and even maybe a thrid, if i was not happy with what they are doing.
