Bittorrent is a program that uses the info in .torrent files to connect to servers that then help it find the parts of the files the .torrent file describes.
If you have Opera, bittorrent is built in - just find .torrent files and open them in Opera.
You can get many different programs that do the same basic thing as bittorrent, so feel free to look around.
Just remember that you can get in trouble for downloading stuff you normally should pay for...
But (!) there are literally thousands of programs that are made to be free - both "without cost" and "without limits". It's called "Open Source" - and Firefox (IE replacement), Thunderbird (Outlook replacement) and OpenOffice (MS Office replacement) are just a few examples!
Feel free to ask me questions, etc.

Don't. I suggest you use Azureus. It is a lot easier to install and use. Just go to the download page here.
http://azureus.sourceforge.net/
Once installed, if you have a firewall I would suggest allowing Azureus or disabling the firewall. It is important you do so that you keep ports open for transfers (uploading and downloading). For the upload kb/s speed, I'd recommend putting 12 kb.
That's the basics of it, and then you can just start downloading torrents. They will automatically open Azureus for you and prompt you on where to be downloaded to. God speed!

Firstly you download a BitTorrent client.. BitTornado is a good one.
Then you find a torrent file.. try Torrentz.com
When youve downloaded the very small torrent file..double click it.
THis will launch your torrent client and begin the download of the File you want (video, game etc)
Think of the torrent file as a pointer.. it points to where you can download the files from and the client downloads it for you.
