I would think that if part of it was still in there, and they found it to be malignant, which does mean cancerous, that you would want the whole thing taken out. I know that will require you to be on medical supplements for the rest of your life, but that sounds way better than cancer, don't you think?
If you're really concerned, get a second opinion. They are doctors, after all. They're not ALL brilliant, but they are trained for this sort of thing.

Your doctors know far, far more about what needs to be done than people here. Experience as a patient is very limited. Ask your doctors how many people with a similar condition they have treated and what were the outcomes.

Why is he taking the rest of the thyroid? Did the cancer take over that half too?
Ask your doctor whats going on, and if you dont like the answer, get a 2nd opinion

My endocrinologist told me if your gonna have cancer the thyroid is the best place.I ask why he said it's contained in one area and they can remove the whole thyroid.So my oppion would be yes have i done. Good luck God Bless
