I take it that you are not old enough to remeber Korea or even Vietnam. China has such a mass of people that they do not need an army. In Korea we were beaten back not by the waves of attackers, but by the millions that surrendered!

There are many factors that contribute to the high costs of running the US military. Same goes for China, accept its costs are much lower.
Don't think that monetetary values simply shows a military's strength. There could be many reasons for those value results.
China has a military worth reckoning with. Its new weapon systems have improved compared to the previous ones.
Its not like they only import weapons from other countries, they research and develop weapons themselves. This can generate value in the long term.
Considering the US, well I have no doubtl; it is the mightiest military on earth. And looking at what's going on in Iraq and the dangerous momentum in the Middle East, I think the US does pose a threat to world peace.

Gullible?? If you believe that a billion people, with the technology to down satellites, send a man into space, mass produce whatever they want is no threat, then who is the gullible one here. China has the largest standing army in the world, has had a long history of warfare, can literally cause a collapse of the U.S. economy if they called in all debts and what part of any of those things are no threat.
P.S. hey road warrior, check your historybooks if you think China has never invaded other nations.

Have a look at what they did in Tibet, took over and completely cowered the native population who now only have the option of menial labour or begging to earn a living. Look up Christianity in china and see how they deal with that (I checked it up last night out of boredom).
Lastly work for one that owns a business here in Oz and try and exercise your legal rights in regards to employment law, most business people who have had dealings with them will tell you that a written contract means very little to them. Did you have the chance to see the SBS special a month back about factory workers in China?
This is not to state that all Chinese are like this, they are polite and do work hard to achieve their goals. But I would watch very carefully.

To tell you frankly, most nations in the outside world think that the U.S. is more of a threat to world peace than China. China had never invaded any foreign country. The U.S. on the other hand has ongoing war in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Somalia. And now, it is threatening Iran and Syria.

First off we have no true way of knowing what China spends on their military budget, because they are a secretive communist regime! Then manipulate their currency, keeping it artificially low.
China has been blinding the spy satellites we need for our national security with high power lasers, and they just blew up a satellite, a major concern to the Pentagon!
So take your propaganda somewhere else, we're not buying!
As a matter of fact you should take the question down out of embarrassment as we've completely punked you!

Seeing as the Chinese government owns all industry and pays little for labor, they get alot for 40B.
They are currently building a large deep water Navy.
Now,what do they need that for?
