Hello!
I'm considering moving to Australia with my girlfriend when I finish University, and am currently considering a 3 month "trial" December 2007-Mar 2008. We are in the early stages of planning, but I want to see Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane, and maybe stay one month in each place... What I'm worried about is where to stay for that time. I would prefer not to stay in a hostel for the whole period, and cannot afford hotel. So if there is anyone who knows of a private Bed and Breakfast kind of thing that could house me and my girlfriend for a couple of weeks in any of the mentioned cities, please let me know!

Well, I did the exact thing a couple years ago (except I came from the US, and I did end up moving to Australia permanently). Let me first say that some hostels are actually very nice and you can get a private room or a double room for you and your friend. Check it out before you say no. Also, if you really didn't want to go that route, look for a room for rent. That's what I did. You can find plenty of shared apartments for short term. Try www.domain.com.au They have the best listings. Good luck!! And I hope you have a GREAT time while you're here!

I would live anywhere in Australia except the Gold Coast. I loathe the place. I live in northern NSW, about three hours from Brisbane. It is perfect there. I'm currently living in Darwin for a few months and it's good up here too. Anywhere in Queensland is better than the Gold Coast. In NSW try the Central Coast north of Sydney or south of the city towards Nowra. If you want surfing nearby then your choices are around Sydney or Perth. Melbourne, Adelaide and Hobart don't have surf, you have to go a long way to find it.

Hey

Good choice...being a Sydneysider you are making a wise decision! LOL

I do not own a bed or breakfast...but I do know where there are some good bed and breakfast. I don't know where you are from, but Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane are quite expensive areas to live in (if you live in the middle of the city). I have plenty of friends who are travellors (here and there and everywhere...) and most of them stay in apartments in the city before jet setting somewhere else. There are plenty of palces to stay in apartments cos most travellors who don't stay in hostels live in shared rooms like this.

Other then that...if you move a little further into the suburbs there are plenty of cheap bed and breakfast... Ithink there is one just down the road from me called Balmain Lodge (look it up)...my friend stayed there and he said it was basic and friendly and nice!

Sydney is the best!!
If you want something beachy & nice stay at Bondi Beach or if u wanna be in the hustle and bustle of it all stay in the city area.

Check out this website for accomodation

maybe try contacting some real estate agents ,, that way they may be able to provide you with a choice ....

i'm not providing links DIRECTLY to any agent as i don't want to be reported for spam :)

good luck in your search.
