Paxil is for anti=social disorders,and depressed people.I am Bi polar.Depekote was a med that stabilized my mood.Lithium Carbonate is used.Xanax or a Benzodiazepine med for mania.Manic depression,ups and downs.I take a new one Carbamazepine less side effects for me.It really is your Doc.and the person,different meds work differently on people and I have been given Zyprexa in a low dose

There are multiple drugs used for Bi[olar depending on waht phase you are in.

Derpessed phase - antidepressants ie Paxil, prozac, lexapro, celexa, Zoloft,

Manic phase--- neuroleptics,ie, seroquel, zyprexa, risperdal, haldol,

2. antiepileptics ie, tegretol, trileptal, depakote, topamax, lamictal, keppra.

3. lithium

Make sure that other metabolic conditions are cheked that could aggravate the mood swings such as:

1. Sleep hygiene, 2. thyroid status
