Call your health professional immediately if you answer "Yes" to any of the following questions.

1. Does your pain become severe when you take a deep breath?

2. Are you coughing up blood or sputum mixed with blood?

3. Do you have pain deep in your leg or calf that is not from a leg injury?

4. Do you have pain and you have had a pulmonary embolus or a blood clot (deep vein thrombosis, or DVT) in the past?

Call your health professional today if you answer "Yes" to the following question:

Do you have mild to moderate pain when taking a deep breath but no other symptoms?

You should go without delay to the emergency room for evaluation. The symptoms that you are describing suggest that you may be developing a pulmonary embolism, which is a clot in one of the blood vessels in your lungs. They will take xrays or an ultrasound, and youll get the best care available. Good luck
