Yes you can come close to God through his beloved Son Jesus who died to take away your sins. Jesus said "No man comes to the Father except through me" If you have a personal relationship with the Son you please the Father and you can come to him in faith. Because we live on faith not by sight. Salvation is a free gift from God not by works lets anyone should boast. Repent of your sins in private or at prayer ministry in a good church, or if you do not want anyone to hear your sins pray go God privately as he will hear you. Then ask Jesus to come into your heart to live and to change you from the inside out. Trust me he will if you are willing and are sincere. Jesus will then come and live on the inside of you by his Holy Spirit and you will be able to have a personal relationship with God. If you obay God and trust him, he will bless you. He loves to bless those he loves, because through his beautiful Son Jesus we are the Children of the most high God. God did not sent his Son into the world to condem it but to save it, as we are all like lost sheep in need of a shepherd. Jesus is Lord, and he is the king of Kings, and one day every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that Jesus is Lord. The only way to Heaven is through a personal relationship with Jesus. You want to get closer to God? Then go out, buy a gun, purchase some bullets, go home, sit down on your EZ chair, load up the gun, place it to your head and ... have a nice trip.
You'll be standing face to face with him in no time.
Of course, I am an atheist ... so what do I know?

the bible says that if you search with all your heart Youl will find God. that is a literal promise that can be fulfilled.
but in the book of mormon the Prophet Joseph Smith said: “I told the brethren that the Book of Mormon was the most correct of any book on earth, and the keystone of our religion, and a man would get nearer to God by abiding by its precepts, than by any other book.” so check out this link: http://scriptures.lds.org/en/bm/introduction

Have a personal relationship with God committing yourself to His commandments and find a group where you can join in the worship.Read the bible and spiritual books to keep your soul at peace.

Simply start Reading the Bible, begin in The Gospel of John and read it each day, for 30-days!
Ask yourself, Who Jesus said He IS, and what did HE do for YOU!
The answer is THERE!

why dont u read Prison to Praise and Power in Praise by Merlin Carothers....it will really help u becoz it tells us to praise God for everything in our lives and how that brings us closer to God each moment.

your first steps will be to pray to God, & do it in The name of Jesus Christ, & if you are sincere, God will lead you, he did me, & has been for 37 yrs. You do not learn everything over night.
