VAT fraud and drug smuggling are both dealt with more by Customs arm of H M Revenue and Customs. The commonest VAT minor fraud is simply not declaring all the takings of a business and whilst I would not dream of telling you how HMRC does have numerous techniques to find out about it!
Go to the VAT and Duties Tribunal website to read about those that did not succeed in their endeavours!

VAT fraud is the same goods going in and out of countries it's called a carousel. Drugs take a walk around Liverpool port, big packets of white powder or any container from Rotterdam
