My empoyer filed bankrupcy in Feb of 2006. I never received any of the money they owed me yet I received a w-2 showing $8,110.96. I have no way of getting a hold of them and am wondering if it is legal for me to file this. Part two of my question...How can I find out WHERE THIS MONEY WENT? I believe my branch manager received it.

Oh crap. You are in a situation, probably not of your own making. There are a couple of ways to do this. Firstly, work out your tax position without puttng in the W-2 and then work it out with the W-2. You can do this painlessly with any tax software. Look at the difference and decide if it is worth fighting with the IRS over it. You see, the IRS will receive a copy of the W-2 so they will expect it on your return. They can take months, sometimes a couple of years to catch up with you, which you really don't want to have to deal with, I imagine.

If the difference is worth fighting over, see a CPA or Enrolled Agent (this is not a job for H & R Block or the like). You need a reputable name helping you with this. If you do choose to fight, be prepared for one. The IRS is going to want to know how you managed to live in that time. How did you get paid before they stopped? Check? Direct Deposit? Do you have bank statements showing regular deposits to the same account, along with contemporaneous payslips?

Crunch your numbers before you do anything and think very carefully before you fight this.
