The chances of being packed off to an institution are practically non existant!
Dont be frightened of telling a doctor how you feel, thye will believe you and help you. I know the thought of telling some one is scarey, I have been there and put off treatment fo much longer than I should have done.
If you want to talk in confidence then the Samaritans will always lend an ear;

Make the call and tell them how you feel. If you keep it anonymous they can't pack you off. You don't give any details of why you need the help. But it seems that you are rational enough to know that you need help, so it shouldn't be bad enough to put you in an institution. If the person you call does not seem to help you, then try someone else. Church is a good place to get help, they have rules about not giving out personal information. You will be glad you reached out for help. The sooner you do, the sooner you will not be terrified. Good luck.

Well if you need professional help then you really should get it, now adays they are trying to keep you out of the hospital, they will keep an eye on you themself over sending you away to an mental institution, things have changed a lot. I could not even believe that myself. Therapy can help, they can work on your issures and the problems, and they way you are feeling just by seeing you in a therapy setting now. They would reither do that then send you to a mental institution. So try not to focus on the bad, that happen to you some time back, it is important for you to get help and get good help, someone that is willing to listen to you and not over react to what you are telling them. You can feel bad, and want to do bad things to yourself without them sending you off, that is called venting , and it really helps you to get those feelings out, and it is also showing them that you are asking for help, and they would reither help you in a friendly setting then to send you off to a state place. I know how those place can be, and i know they don't really give you any treatment there, and now that is now it is getting to be all over, cause of the goverment. Cutting back on getting help for mental illiness, which should be treated as any other illiness, and you should not be treated crazy or any of that . It is about time that they are learning that it is better to work with you and your issures, then to send you off all of the time, so if you need help, please get it, casue i really do not want to see you getting hurt, or being send away , cause u did something to yourself that they did not agree with. If i had a magic pill or magic wand i would use it on all of the people here that are in real need of it, but there is no such thing, so i want you to take care of yourself , and get the help that you need, be as truthfull as you can, and remember you can always change therapist. So please stay safe and if need be call your local crisis line this weekend.

If you check yourself into a mental hospital you can leave any time even if it's against medical advice. The hospitals are not what you think. It's a little rough at first, but after that it's like a relaxing vacation, for real! I've been to four different ones in the past 9 years.

You do not mention what you suffer from.
The goal of mental professionals is to make you better - not lock you up. Todays medicine is much better than it was 30 years ago. Generally, you will not go to a hospital unless you want to harm yourself or others. If that is how you are feeling, there are hospitials that "won't lock you up" they are there to make you feel better. They will probably prescribe medicine, watch you until those feelings pass, and speak with you to get you back to feeling healthy.
I am sure your fears are real; however, if you are suffering from depression there is a light at the end of the tunnel. The mental health professionals are there to help you.
Good luck, I hope you will start feeling better soon.

Try a crisis hotline. You can call anonymously and they will give you some immediate help.
Another thing that you may want to know is that the only way you can be committed is if a mental health professional feels that you are in danger of harming yourself or others.

being afarid of ending up in one of those institutions is a normal human response....I would be afraid of the same thing...
however the reality is that the chances of you being sent anywhere against your will is extremely low....and can only happen for I think 48 hours at most here in Australia...
And if you agree to go to a psychiatric unit they wont let you stay long at all... they will be wanting you to leave...
There are never enough beds available in psych units here in Australia and the paperwork involved in admitting a patient is a total pain in the butt.... the paperwork to section a patient (that is admit them against their will) is phenomenal...
soooooo the chances are very good that no one is going to want to admit you....
sooooo dont worry too much about that... start by seeing a psychologist... tell them what you are experiencing and let them decided whether they can help you or whether you need to go to a psychiatrist... chances are a psychologist can help you learn some strategies and learn some coping mechanisms etc for life in general... if they believe you need psychiatric help they will arrane a referral and you can talk to the psychologist about your fears...
here in Australia psychologist can now bulk bill up to 12 sessions in a year for a client...so dont worry about the money side of things..
best of luck..

You can never make the journey if you are too afraid to take the first step.
Make the call, on the first meeting, explain your fear of institutions. I am sure there are other options open to you if you just have help exploring those options.

Wow man, you really sound like you need some help. Don't worry they can't make you do anything that you do not want to do. But it would be in your best interest to talk to someone. If you don't like them or feel uncomfortable then find someone else. Good luck buddy.

You need to seek out professional help. Sometimes just talking to someone helps. Sometimes you just need medication to offset a chemical imbalance in your brain. Regardless you need help and it is there for you. Just try it and good luck to you!
