I am the volunteer organizer for a local not-for-profit group and we are always looking for fundraising ideas. Some of our most profitable ones have been;
1. Bingo-open to the public, we sell coffee and snack (donated by local grocery stores). We give small cheap prizes to the winners, and sell raffel tickets for a "door prize" a larger ticket item that we find someone to donate.
2. Bowling-people pay a higher price for a lane and food and soda are offered for free (again all is donated). They are encouraged to form a team of four or more. Raffle tickets are sold. We give everyone a souvonier with our name on it which helps with public awareness of us.
3. Golf-works the same way as bowling, we charge for tee time and dinner is included. Raffle tickets are sold. Many clubs will work out a deal with you, thus increaseing your profits
4. Tagsales-I go around to people who are holding tagsales and ask them to give me whatever is left over at the end instead of giving it to charity. They usually are more than happy to do so, then we turn around and either hold a tag sale at our homes or rent a table space from a club holding one or a flea market and sell what we collected
5. Concerts- this is what we are trying out now. I was intouch with one of the casinos in our state and was offered 400 tickets at a fraction of the cost. We inturn will do fundraising to buy the tickets, then we will charge the public less than the face value for a ticket which (provided by the casino) includes dinner and $10 worth of gambeling money. It looks like they are getting a great deal and we will end up making a killing at the end.
Hope you can use some of these ideas. We are always trying to come up with new ideas. If you want more advice on any of the aforementioned suggestions or other ideas feel free to contact me. Good luck with your club, I think it is a very good idea. Also don't hesitate to surf the net looking for grants, you may be surprised with what you find.

I raised £4,500 for tsunami recovery by phoning up local children's drama group, a dance class, folk singers, show-time groups and aspiring comedian. Got free use of large theatre space, grabbed hold of as many people as I could to publicise the event, got some posters printed for free and we had a wonderful variety evening. Mind you, publicity of the tsunami was such that hardly anyone refused to help. The theatre was full. I cashed in on the success and put on three more themed charity evenings for other causes. Eg. A big Curry night with Indian food, sari fashion show, bollywood dancing. There are plentyof people who will perform for nothing- tap into amateur drama groups-they might put on an extra night of one of their performances. Make sure you get loads of publicity. Schools are a good bet.
Lots of ideas. Good luck!!

Fun Fundraising ideas:
Get the local grade schools and middle schools involved. Have them do a penny war. The grade who collects the most money in change gets an extra long recess or a game day, etc. I did this and raised almost $3000.

Cake bakes probably make a few quid an hour...
Pole dancers take in £800 an hour each
Do some arrnagement with a pole dance club or set up your own.
Guys part with oodlies of money to see baby feeders.
Also how about a jelly wrestling contest... inc boys vs girls.
Bobbys bikkini car was good as well with optional topless car wash.
(normal car was... £5 topless £25 +) no extra costs

Great question. All the answers you got so far are fantastic suggestions. However, I would recommend waiting until summer for the bikini carwash. You don't want to get the girls with pneumonia.
Go for the cakes and the musical first. That will help you get started. Good luck.

Are raffles allowed where you live? (some places frown on it or it's illegal)...If its for a "not-for-profit" organization, then it may be OK.....contact a local vendor(s) to donate goods or services then sell tickets....drawing the winners should be done in public view or with lots of witnesses...it's a great way for the vendors to advertise and for others to learn about your organization, not to mention a chance for folks to win some cool stuff!!!
