Great question!
You're absolutely right to feel uncomfortable with this
God doesn't need our worship - speaking through one of the Exile prophets (Amos?) Yahweh "do you think I need all your animal sacrifices (their main form of worship) - I have the cattle on a thousand hills"

The Trinity is by definition a relationship of love - and it was out of this loving relationship that God made humanity (like healthy parents who don't have children to meet some need in them but as an expression of their existing love).

So we are like God in that we are essentially relational beings and are in relationship with God (who is the source of things like life, kindness, goodness, etc).
To really understand God is to worship him - like anyone really understanding the holocost would be saddened/angered... only more extreme.
So worship is a bi product of simply encountering God... and it is this that God is wanting.

There are so many times when God expresses pain at his people worshipping other gods because they're just pale imitations - God wants them to have ultimate happiness - and the way to get that is to encounter the source of all goodness, joy, peace, kindness, strength, truth etc

Hope that helps a bit?
Keep asking questions like this - if something inside of you thinks "I can't believe in a God like this" then there's probably more to God than you've been told.
Grace

I don't know why God created people. But when I worship Him and thank him for all he has done for me, I feel amazing happiness. It is a gift to us that worshipping God gives us joy. He wants us to worship him because he loves us and wants to make us happy. God is not a normal parent, he is a perfect parent. Best wishes.

God says i dont want your sacrifices i want you to know Me I dont want your fasting I want your love,Praising and thanking Him is the least we can do for Him being humiliated being spit on willing to let them whip Him with a cat of 9 tails filled with glass and sharpened razor stones splitting His back open to shreds carrying His cross a crown of thorns pushed on His head Spikes nailed through His wrists and feet Suffering on the cross for 6 hours and having all humans sins placed on Him all because Jesus loves us and to fulfill what His Father had done so we Humans Can understand how much God loves us.Now is that not worth your praise Is that to much to ask

its not just worship, its faith and believing in what he has done. and with-standing the test of time in a sinful world. we no longer sacrifice animals, those were tests from the old testiment. you cant speak of this without having tests be in the answer. its not that he has or doesnt have the 'test results' because he made humans with their own mind... he programmed us to be able to make our own decisions and pic what path we want to be on.. life is the ultimate test to make it into the new world

Worship is not groveling before God, nor is it performing meaningless rituals. If God were vain, one would think that he would want pictures and statues of him everywhere, yet he commanded that no one make images of him.

'Worship' is used with reference to God in the Bible, the Hebrew or Greek term for it is specifically 'acknowledgement of position and respect". So to answer at least one of your questions...yes, acknowledgement and respect are enough.

By worshiping God, we acknowledge his perfection, which is the first step in learning from him: we realize he's a perfect teacher, and then we are willing for him to teach us. It is in worship that we again are enabled to have an epiphany to understand the wonder of God’s love and the glory of God’s grace!

John 4:23,24 But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshippers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. God is Spirit and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.

Worship to a Christian is not a chore. It is a delight to worship God as we worship God out of our love for Him for loving us first and granting us our hearts' desires. We worship Him in spirit and truth and our spirits are refeshed as worship Him. As we are in God's presence we have the fulness of peace and joy. Christians come away from their worship of God with the sense that God is with them in a tangible way and are strengthened in their spirits..

Worships or rituals are man-made. God only wanted to know if we have faith on him. A simple prayer will do as long as it came from the heart.
