From what i believe, it has nothing to do with chemicals or anything. Instead, it has something to do with your own character. Ignore me if i am wrong but i believe you love the feeling of being cosy. Understand that carpets as to be compared to wooden flooring throws in the effect that you crave for. You dont feel right. You feel that the place is empty? Or maybe you don't. That was just my thoughts. Or maybe it could be the colour, the touch or anything else. Do you love cuddles? teddybears when you were young? If you do, it explains why. I hope what i've said is of some help.

Well it could be, anything can be proable, since you are used to having carpet floors just the change can effect some peoples moods, so yes that can happen. You really need to try to learn that there will always be change, and there sometimes is not going to be carpet all of the places you may live in in the future.. Like for those that love their wood floors a carpet and depress them cause it can cause them more problems then they can handle. I would not say that it is a chemicals on the the wood floors, cause most of them are not cleaned with chemicals cause they could ruin the floor. So yes i would say there could be a link, but if you want to know for sure you can go and talk to a therapist about it, cause there could be another connection to the wood floors that you don't remember.

I agree with the chemicals n the effect of colors n the toxic that materials have and if u really don't feel comfortable with ur floor have it changed n all.
across from those good answers, as I have studied in Traditional Med. n though it's true, it might sound very strange, the material of wood is having a direct effect on ur liver and lungs + ur cerebellum. for ppl similar to u I usually recommend they have a checkup first n if u can't get a carpet n go for checkup and have to stay in this way for some times, as for natural ways that I know u can have a bag or a pattela filled with mountain salt n lay ur hands n feet in it for more than ten minutes a day. it can help. b'cuz salt has an amazing effect on every kind of negative energy. in fact some of my patients have made 2 bags of salt n wear them at night while sleeping. u just have to change the salt every once a while. there are also some plants that are useful to disinfect ur home from the toxics that are released by the materials such as wood. the plants are:
The famous Rosemary, juniper/gorse wood, leafs of pine tree and some seads called Spand/Sfand. u can burn them and the smoke will disinfect ur home, u can also just keep them around corners of the hose they can still have some effects. there r many other plants I can name but these r avalable in almost every country. and just to widen ur point of view ;remember every thing around u has a direct effect on ur body n mind ; the seasons, the ground, the plants around u the colors that srounds u, the sounds n the words u hear, the air u breath n so on.. n specially ur nutrition is the most effective of them all cuz ur body gains it's energy from them. u should stay a way from foods that r not that energetic which r called cold foods n stay with the energetic n naturals. it's winter here which is a season of depression for some ppl.
any ways if all those recommendations above sound odd or funny, just try participating in team sport games or go to some sport club n stay in tuch with nature n use some happy colors around u for the interior decore, finally becareful of ur nutrition n I'm sure u'll end up just fine. :)
the bottom line is wood can be effective n so does everything else around u, but it's all about how u respod to them.
like they say: If life gives u Lemons, u can make Lemonade :)

I think chemicals coming out of the floor would depend on the age of the floor. There are a lot of chemicals that come out of carpeting as well.
I am wondering if you are linking your past sad event to this place because it is triggering the memory.
If carpet is all you need to be happy, for goodness sake, just go buy or borrow a rug and see if it lifts your mood any. No need to get anything fancy or spend hundreds of dollars, just get a large leftover remnant and put it down and see how it goes!
Blessings- dd

It is likely not the floor itself, but some toxin in the new home such as dust or pollen or mold spores that can cause depression. Have a specialist come and check for these. See link below for more details. Search on the word 'depression' in that page to find the relevant section.

Probably the sight of the wooden flooring is a trigger that sparks up the memory of when you were depressed in the house where you used to live.
You should either get carpets or you could try therapy to stop the automatic linkage

The only thing i can think of without getting too deep is that for you personally maybe in the sub-conscience a relation with something that happened when you lived in the house with floor boards, something that made you very depressed. Every time you get back to the floor boards your mind associates it with something your mind finds it easier to forget. Might be very wrong but maybe something worth thinking about. :0)

I have never heard of such a link. Are you sure you are not searching for a reason and feeling depressed due to the stress of change?
Either way, sounds like you will be happier with carpet....

Maybe the color and things like that look a bit 'sad' so it makes u depressed. My dad is a psychologist and he has many books so I'll check and let u know.
