Ok, i've been reading answers to these kinds of questions and theres
always someone telling people not to commit suicide. I know that you guys mean good but I'm only asking out of pure curiosity. I DO NOT intend, in any way, to commit suicide. So if you've got a a good answer to my question then please answer but if all you're going to say is don't commit suicide then thank you for your concern but I'm not a suicidal person. Thanks in advance.

As far as i understand "barbituates" are the only ones dangerous to take with alcohol. Is this true? and ive come across an answer from a pharmacist that they rarely give barbituates as a sleeping pill these days. what i'm saying is... is it possible to overdose with "todays" sleeping pills enough to be lethal.

It depends on the type of medication. Some you need more of than others, some it is almost impossible to take a lethal dose with, and a lot of those that they recommend you don't take with alcohol it is because the alcohol makes them less effective, not because it makes them dangerous. I suggest if you really want to know the answer you look at the information regarding specific drugs.

hey like ur attitude
benzodiazepines n babiturates r the two categories which consist of sedative n hypnotic drugs .Benzo have high therapeutic index so its pretty safe but the barbiturates a dose of 2000mg to 3000mg (or 2-3 gm) for lipid soublecongeners n 5000-9000mg for non lipid soluble is LETHAL

without alc also they r dangerous thts y they r not used these days as ur pharmasist told u n if any drug not only the hypnotic can be dangerous even ur commoly used paracetamol can cause lethal poisoning

All sleeping pills can be lethal if you take enough of them. With most modern sleeping pills you would need between 100 and 1000 milligrams for a lethal dose.

Also, ALL sleeping pills are more dangerous when taken together with alcohol, i.e. a lower dose will kill you, when taken with alcohol.

With modern sleeping pills, the effect of alcohol is less than it is with barbiturates.

hello my dear
recent sleeping pills of benzodiazebines (e.g midzolam) are not as harmful as old ones ( phenobarbiturates), which cause respiratory center depression!
benzodiazepines r not used in suicide , the have a weak effect, the celebrities which committed suicide by those pills , addicted them with alcoholics which is very harmful and dangerous e;g
Marlyn Monroe, Dorothy Dandering

YES; they rarely now given because they r dangerous and have cross interactions with alcohol
they u used in operation rooms with anesthesia
