its worse when Muslims answer those questions with hostility though. you just fall for their trap.
they insult Muslims with their questions,
then some Muslims responds harshly,
then the questioners get to say, "see, look at how the Muslims are replying with their hostile comments and rediculing me, they don't know how to be peaceful because Islam isn't peaceful..." yada yada yada something like that.
It would just be better to ignore the questions.
first, ask yourselves:
"is this questioner seriously asking his/her question for the sake of knowlege?"
or
"is this questioner just trying to make Muslims angry?"
ignore the questions that are not for knowlege-seeking and when answering any question, if you can't come up with anything other than hostility and redicule in your replies, do not leave anything.
leave the responding to those who can use the best manners.
(this isn't directed at you personally... its to all my fellow Muslim brothers and sisters)

Thanks for your question. I'm a Muslim who lives in the US, and could pinpoint few factors for this animosity towards Islam by some:
1- Human nature, humans fear what they don't know. And Islam to some is still an alien concept they are not whiling to come to terms with.
2- Over zealot Christians (and other religious groups to lower extent), who aim to discredit Islam as away to preserve dominance of Christianity in the west.
3- Wrong practices by some Muslims in the west fans the fire of hatred.
4- Media (which is slowly coming to terms with Islam) that still magnifies errors of Muslims and minimizes what errors being done on Muslims (examples, coverage on the war in Iraq, what happens in Palestine,..etc)
5- Dehumanizing Muslims (or any Human) helps foster Ideas of hatred.
6- Here is a link that states how some of these things manifest it self:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anti-Muslim
In the end i would like to say, it's the responsibility of the Muslims to try to educate and the responsibility of others to to seek understanding, once we get there, there will be no more hatred.

People are angry at Muslims because of 9/11 and all the bad propaganda they're getting on the news constantly. Wherever there's Islam, there's violence and hatred. I think hate is the natural response to hate, though not the right one. I would like to see more sincere questions on yahoo answers about Islam and not so much insults. Muslims should respond to the insults with patients and logic and not with more insults. Salam to you.

My dear sister,
Thanks and Wa'alaekum us Salam.
As you have raised really a very good point, the need of time for people to Know.
Almighty Allah has shown us the real truth before our birth, the time when all of us were in the shapes of souls. Allah Almighty got a promise from all of us that he is the only Lord and Sustainer of all of us, the Ultimate Creator of all the creatures. We all has promised Him Yes O our Lord this is the Truth.
Islam reminds you that promise which most of the people have forgot, but it is there in our subconscious, that pinches more during ignorance from The Truth that exists in our inner self.
As more guilty they feel, of not fulfilling their promise, as much they hate the real Truth. Islam is the religion of nature, appeals more, but the egoistic approach of most of people results in hater against Islam.

speaking approximately Westerns: i don't know speaking approximately Arabs: extra suitable than ninety six% of them are Muslims and against what first one reported, maximum of them are interpreting Qur'an as quickly as a month and three times or extra at Ramadan. however the priority that lots of them do not do what they examine and that project brought about some human beings to be undesirable. Bin encumbered isn't Muslim because of the fact he did something against Qur'an and against what prophet reported... Muhammed reported that who fights any christian who do not fights Muslims isn't Muslim. And he reported that if the enemy combat Muslims, they might desire to combat military and don't harm different peoples. approximately Muslims non Arabs: 7% them talk Arabic and examine Qur'an. and something use the reason of Qur'an with their language. approximately many westerns: what i know that they hate Arabs and Muslims because of the fact they're against Israel. that's a certainty they hate them because of the fact what they do with Palestinians and because they occupied many areas of Palestine. Many non Muslim non Arab human beings hate Israel for an analogous reason. Even Jews in usa and different international places hate Israel.

I think it is easy to act in a hateful way toward something you don't completely understand and, perhaps, are a little fearful of.
Sadly, plenty of people still associate Islam with fundamentalism. Just like, once upon a time, people associated Germans with Hitler. Guilt by association is a sad reality in a lot of people's minds when they don't know any better.
Perhaps avoiding statements like "is it because it is the truth" will help to encourage tolerance from all sides of this very difficult debate.

Unfortunately the extremist Muslims who are in the minority have made very sure that the world knows of the terrible deeds they have done and they have done some really horrific things and they are proud of what they have done.... as you may well know.
Any thing that happens which involves Muslims is spread in all the news papers around the world and this more than likely has caused your average Joe to believe that all Muslims are the same.
The majority of Muslims are probably peace loving people who want to get on with their lives without all the bigotry
I am not a Muslim... but I feel for the ones who have done nothing and yet have to put up with uneducated people taunting and ridiculing them..

It is because they do not have an understanding or an educated knowledge of what the Muslim religion is. They have little brains that think Muslim=Terrorist. It's sad when people are so feeble in mind they have to depend on the media and politicians to dictate their entire realm of "reality".
I advise you not to feed into these attitudes. Nothing you say will soak into their brains, they are making statements to lash out and gain attention. Let them run their mouths because they enjoy hearing themselves. just carry on with yourself and worry not about instigators. =)

I know I'm not a hater. It's easy for me to disrespect people who disrespect me but I'm maturing and learning to exercise tact and restraint.
I know I'm not ignorant. I'm not perfect but most of what I say about Islam is true. I usually back up my claims with encyclopedic articles, Islamic sites, or news.

i think we should blame it on the "media"..
it was reported almost everyday.. "a muslim terrorrist attacks...", "a muslim killed...", a muslim bombed...." so on and so forth.... did you heard a news "a crhistian killed...", a crhistian bombed...", a christian terrorrist...", a crhistian ambushed...", or a buddhist raped...."???? .... NO, no one reported like that.. why is it they always streched the word MUSLIM?? its like muslim connotes violence.. this is unjust.. well, we know that not all muslims are bad as they think, they're also bad christians, buddhist, and so on... it's on the statistics on how many muslims in the jail than christians... look on the ratio.. numbers speaks for themselves.... its sad to say but this is true.. and im proud of those who still believes that being a muslim doesnt mean violence.. and that ISLAM brings peace....
