Sorry to hear about your pet, its very worrying to have a sick animal!
the best thing to do is everything your vet says, but keep him moving, little walks round the garden or just down the street will help keep the blood moving, leg injuries take quite a while to heal, its not a very fleshy area, so not terribly blood-rich, so healing takes longer, good quality food, maybe a suppliment of cod liver oil, that will keep his bowels moving as well.
if you find hes a bit nervous of going out, and has lost some confidence, dont worry, its normal, just give him plenty of encouragement and keep some treats in your pocket when you go out so he gets a positive view of the outside again.
Lots of cuddles will help him feel better

The best thing to do is stick to the Vet's advice, give the poor creature any antibiotics or pain killers the Vet prescribed and supplement his diet to aid healing. Add a multivitamin drop to his food. Give him milk once a day to aid bone healing and you might want to use a touch of wheatgerm oil on his scars, it's packed with vitamin E which will help the healing process (they sell it at The Body Shop). Hope he feels beeter soon! (Oh and lots of walks so he gets exercise and gets used to walking without the toe! it's physiotherapy for dogs!!)

oh yes, follow the vets advice definitely! He/she knows best, they did go to school to learn how to care for critters for a minute I think. My vet's always told me the licking pets do is good for the hurt area, keeps it clean. I don't know about a graft, but I would ck with vet. Hope your critter gets better quick, shame about the toe, but it could have been a lot worse.

Best to leave well enough alone.....his body will fix itself....your vet has done his best so now it is down to the dogs body to sort the healing out....you can help by making sure he has lots of GOOD healthy food...perhaps increase his vitamins and minerals and also his protein...ask the vet if they have a dietician working there or talk to an advisor at a pet food place either phone or walk in...but good old fashioned healthy food will do him a world of good!!
By the way Rescue Remedy is NOT for healing..it is for nervous conditions lilke being afraid of fireworks or traffic noises..it works like a sedative.....not a healing potion.

we had a German Sheppard that was hit by a car and her leg was cut to the bone and even broke the bone. the vet wanted to take it off but this other vet in the same place said they could try and save it. they did. but once in a while we had to take her back to have dead skin removed so the new could heal faster. the thing to do is let time heal it. and the vet will know if the dead tissue have to be removed to make it heal faster. do not do anything to it your self

I am so sorry to hear about your beloved dog's accident. The best thing that you can do to promote the wound healing is to ensure that it is kept clean and free from infection. Nature will take its course and your dog will heal fairly soon. In the meantime, give him lots of tlc (tender loving care) and a big hug from me.
Best wishes to you both, J

You should follow the advice of the vet that did the work on your dog, concerning the care and treatment post operative.

speak to your vet.Ask him about using calendula cream or aloe vera which have healing properties. However I suspect that the graft site will still be sore and best left to heal on its own.
