I just got paid today. The normal routine is pay the most important bills and go blow the rest at the horse race track. When I don't go I get headaches, and I start to sweat and I become a complete assh0le. Not even sex from my girlfriend can pleasure me as much as a big $1000 win at the race track. How do you stop yourself from going when you've been doing this routine for 7 years straight? What are the magic words? How do you get to the point where you can finally say "This time I'm not lying to myself, I am going to quit"?

There is no magic word, it's a deep and serious problem. Unfortunately my only advice to you would be - go and find professional help.
There are many anonymous phone lines to begin with and they can point you to a good specialist in the field. You will probably need some consulting.
Good luck!

Try and calculate how much money you have squandered in this way over the past few years. Then realize what a loser you are.

Horse racing is a complete suckers game. I've been to a local OTB a few times and where I go there is this 'expert' who has bred horses for years, knows all about the blood lines and all that crap. Half the time he is on the betting machines, the other half of the time he is at the ATM getting out more money.

He is very knowledgeable and very good at picking winners. He's given me several great tips just by reading the information in the program and adding in his personal knowledge. Even with all this expert inside knowledge he appears to be losing his a55.

The reality is that you are squandering your money, ruining your credit (if you don't pay ALL your bills, not just the important ones) and depriving yourself of the finer things in life.

If you continue this pattern you will end up single, lonely and broke. You will have nothing to show for your life and a horrible retirement.

Start getting a direct deposit from work. Tell management at your track that you want to be banned for a year. Start using online banking to pay ALL your bills. Work out a plan to pay off all your debt. Stop being so selfish and realize the harm you are doing.

I had the same problem here in south Carolina...video poker was legal here..every little convenience store had them.At least you pay the important bills first ..I sometimes did not...Nothing like hitting that $2000 jackpot. Couldn't wait to play..I would even daydream about how huge my next win could be...Then when the money is gone...I would swear off of it...never again...till the next payday.

If this sounds like you, you're in deep my friend. There's not a whole lot you can do, until you decide to stop. This is usually brought on by hitting rock bottom. IE wife/girlfriend leaves....eviction foreclosure on home...jail..so on.
you need to call gamblers anonymous..they can help. also if you have a loved one who can physical go with you on pay day ...pay your bills with you..go grocery shopping with you..then take the rest of your money. Cause if they don't take it..you'll blow it....right? If you can afford professional help ...get it. If not try GA (gamblers anonymous(213) 386-8789or email atisomain@gamblersanonymous.org..).....good luck...if you need someone to chat with I'm geezaboo 24 on yahoo IM...or geezaboo24@bellsouth.net

Gambling is an addicition just like alcohol and drugs. The first thing you have to do is admit that you have a problem and your life is unmanagable because of it. Then you really need to in a g/a group ,Someone who knows what you are going through.Look in phonebook Good luck
