options are immense for a programmer as compared to electronic engineer... salary may be just a bit better

A computer programmer makes decent money, however, they are realizing more often than not, that they constantly need to gain more education...30 years ago we used huge, room sized mainframes...now we have servers and use languages such as Oracle, and Java, .net, etc. If a computer programmer doesn't advance their education regularly, they will be out of a job once a more affordable and convenient system is created. A Systems Analyst makes even more money than a computer programmer, but still poses the need for furthering one's education.

The big money in computer fields is definitely in engineering. A computer engineer makes two, maybe three times the amount of money as a programmer does.

An electrical engineer's salary would be similar, maybe just a bit lower, to a computer engineer's salary. But the job availability for a computer engineer is much greater world wide.
