What the?
I don't know where you've been reading this but by my opinion, you're definately wrong. It's not about the colour of your skin, it's about beauty, if you're being superficial, that is. Beauty can come from within, as well as from what you look like.
But to be honest, you can be ugly black or white, if makes no difference what skin colour you have. I think what you're saying is rather discriminatory.

Black people aren't seen as ugly in today's world, at least I don't think. Look at Beyonce. She's one of the most gorgeous women on the planet. The problem that still exists however is that the extreme ends of both white and black skintones tend to be overlooked and not considered as attractive. By extreme I mean this: really dark-skinned black people and to a slightly lesser extent very fair-skinned white people aren't typically considered as attractive, which is a shame. For black people, it seems that the lighter-complexions like that of Beyonce seem to be considered more beautiful at times than darker ones, while many white women are trying almost any means necessary to get a tan and not look as white. I think dark, chocolate colored skin is beautiful, as I think that very-fair skin is pretty too.

Historically speaking, fair skin was a sign of wealth. Back in the day, most work was done outside; you can imagine the tan on slaves and workers! So, the darker the skin, the less wealthy - or at least something along those lines. My history is a bit rusty.
Of course, your statement isn't entirely accurate. Today, if you look in beauty magazines, the advertisements for golden skin and skin bronzers are really popular.
I think it's all in the matter of where you live, too. In America, all races are seen as beautiful if you have the right body and face.

That's a very good question and I'm glad you asked it. I do think there are enough people out there who do believe that lighter skin is more attractive then dark skin to have a huge impact on the economy.
Example, skin whiteners in South American, Indian, Japan, Korea, Vietnam, Pakistan, Canada, Us to name a few countries do billions of dollars of business each year.
The female movie stars and singers in all these countries I just mentioned is almost almost lighter in skin color then the average women. The most dramatic would be the movie stars of India and Pakistan. Why do they only pick the light skin women to be actresses?
Businesses have one objective and one objective only, to make money by giving people what they want to use, see or have. Allot of people want to buy the skin whiteners, they want to see light skin actresses and singers. Without a demand their would be no supply.
Or course this is not everyone but enough people to put billions into certain pockets.

Even though fair skin is pretty, so are all other colors of skin. It depends on the person's taste. I don't think black people are considered ugly at all. Besides, why are so many white people going to tanning booths and laying out in the sun to get darker skin? I think when it comes down to it, it is a matter of personal taste. It sounds like you've been hurt by a comment or two. Remember, that's just one person's mouth talking. You are of great value in this world, no matter what color your skin/hair/eyes/body shape.

I don't want to get into all of that right now BUT, what i do want to say is that that's NOT true and don't let it get to you.
I'm the Hottest of the Chocolate and I know that I'm cute @ 36yrs old still and have been told this by many of different races.
whom every is filling your head with that if will all change with time. How old are you? Where do you live, the reason why I ask is because that may be why you feel this way.

It's true that outer appearance is favored to inner qualities these days.
As for fair-skinned people being generally seen as beautiful and blacks being seen as ugly, well, I think that just isn't true. Maybe some people are actually ignorant enough to think fair-skinned people are inherently superior to blacks... but as for me, I know better.
God bless.

This is very true in Asian cultures. Especially amongst Indians. I am on and i am also one the darker side so i know. There was once an incident where a grandaunt actually called all my fairer cousins beautiful and then she just looked over my head and cahnged the subject without saying anything about me. I was maybe 14 then. Old enough to understand what her silence on my appearance meant. That hurt. It still hurts. Even Indian guys do that. They will always choose a fairer girl over a darker one. Even though the darker one is prettier. I have gone through that as well. But i m telling myself so what. I have come to a stage where i am not bothered about the guys at all. They can all go jump in a lake or try hopscotchin to timbaktu. But yeah....when your relatives do that it still hurts. What to do.....god has made us like this......and we have to love ourselves as we are......coz He loves us as we are........so say whatever...hold your head up high.....and do your thing. Try not to let people get to you. I am still trying .....it is hard .....but we dark gals gotta do it.

That's rubbish about only fair skinned people being considered beautiful.
Many people find dark skin and features to be very exotic and beautiful .

Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. In our society, what you say seems obvious, a lot can be contributed to those people who make commercials to sell things to us, the consumer.
Most of the "hot" chicks selling everything on TV are fair, blond and white.
It doesn't help the black portion of our society when you see successful Black men, athletes, businessmen, rap stars etc. with white chicks.
I have seen and appreciate beauty in the many cultures that I have been exposed to in my lifetime.
