The difference is which team he is playing on.

Back in '86 we called Osama's men freedom fighters, becasue they were trying to rid Afghanistan of the Ruskis and we were giving them guns.
Now that they area fighting us they are terrorists.

It is all a matter of Spin.

The primary difference is the perception of the person or people that are labeling them. I am quite sure most terrorists do not think of themselves as that.

A good example of how spin is put on things is the Israeli example. During the late 40's Jewish "freedom fighters" kidnapped, set off explosions that killed civilians, and murdered officials. To this day they are considered freedom fighters and not terrorists.

freedom fighter: This would be a person who fights for freedom for all people. Fighting for release from opression. Think US war for independence. .

Terrorist: a person who uses violence, the threat of violence and psychological tactics to produce a fear response in another group of people to ellicit change. Think inssurgents in Iraq, an groups such as Al-queda.

Freedom fighters are what the terrorists call l themselves but in actuality they want to control the population. Unless the Iraqi government and the Afghanistan government and their citizens stand up and say "NO" and take the fight to the terrorists (becoming freedom fighters at that moment) , we in the US will still burying our fighting men and women for years.

If we leave now, the two countires will fall back into the hands of tyrants just as evil and just as deadly as before. We can not, should not leave until they take responsibility for their own national securities!

That depends on your point of view. What we call terrorists, their supporters call freedom fighters. They are fighting for freedom for their group, and will do whatever it takes. We call them terrorists because they have killed Americans, and they call us terrorists because we have killed Iraqis. Again, it's all perspective.

depends on who's using the words.
anyone against bush is a terrorist.... which is 70% of the country.
'freedom fighter' is an incredibly overused term for whatever side is lusting after bloodshed. Rarely is it used correctly.
before you do ANYTHING look at the full picture.

A Freedom fighter will be free to express his view and also the Common view of what all think.

A Terrorist will be able to only express his views, and he will not be thinking what are opinins of others on his views.and mainly he loses his freedom just thinking for sake of people which is not completely right
