Well, if you want a puppy for a pet, please understand that puppies grow into dogs. So, if you want a dog, I'm partial to poodles. Understand that all the breeds you picked need regular grooming. Can you afford a pet as a student? Puppies are quite expensive. You will most likely spend well over $600 the first year of its life with 3 puppy vaccine visits, spaying or neutering, fecal exams and deworming, heartworm preventative, flea preventative, buying toys, dishes, food, crate, collar, leash, nail trims, grooming appointment, food, puppy classes, carpet cleaner for messes, etc. Maybe consider adopting an adult dog from a rescue group. There are many pure breed rescue groups. You can search by breed and location on Petfinder.com. I think this is a better option than getting a puppy. I know I never want to own another puppy for as long as a live. It's all rescued adult dogs for me. Senior dogs are the best too - they will love you forever!

Do you want a dog that sheds fur all over your clothes, bed etc? If not then I would say the poodle or the maltese. The Poms shed madly.

Any small breed dog can have problems with the knees(patellar luxation), but this is a condition known in pomeranians. keep that in mind. Other than that the 3 breeds you chose are very healthy breeds.

You just have to make sure you can have the proper time for whichever dog you get, because these 3 breeds are very needy, and can have separation anxiety if they dont get enough time with you.

Pomeranain's have A LOT OF HAIR!!! Maltese are pretty being all white, but are not that smart. Toy poodles do need to be groomed, which you could learn to do, are VERY smart and do not shed. All of these breed live a long time for a dog, average, 15 years.

the three dog you have mention are the breeds that need special grooming and attention. the poodle is less for the grooming. it can go longer between grooming. they are the number 2 smartest dog. so they say. but you can find really smart dogs in all breeds. but being a student l think a short hair dog is better. the grooming you can do on your own. all it needs is food shelter and loads of love. proper training and a good master. and you should have it fixed. leave the breeding to the professionals.

the maltese is a very prettydog one that you have to brush every-
day, but it gives you one on one time. They are also good apartment dogs that are very active in the inside so when you have the need to study give the dog a toy to play with and it will occupy itself. Also by being small as it is you can housetrain the puppy to potty on paper. GO for it it's worth a try. Let's call her Shiny

I can totally recommend a bichon frise , they do require grooming but we keep our little dote with the puppy cut , which is so much easier to maintain , they are an adorable playful and the most affectionate little things, we have our little girl since she was 7 weeks she is now 3 years old , and the best thing that ever happened to us !(we have no childern)

I would suggest going in the middle with a Maltipoo. They are wonderful! They potty train very quickly, love people, other animals, and kids, and are very bright and easy to train. They shed VERY little, do not bark unless trained to do so, and are very spunky. Also, grooming is a breeze, as long as you can brush them every other day or so and keep them trimmed up. Good luck!
