I just got a 4 to 6 mo. old kitten and it is clawing at the corner of the bed. I got it a scratching post treated with cat nip but It just seems to like the corner of the bed. I put up some scrap carpet on it to prevent damage but I would like to know how I could discourage him from the wrong places

Our cat can go anywhere except in the area where we have leather lounge furniture. We bought an ultrasonic animal barrier - basically every time she entered the area of the lounges, a high pitched sound would go off and make her run off. The sound will go off when the cat (wearing a transmitter on her collar) went within a certain radius of the 'base' (this can be set for particular distances). After about 3 times, the cat would not cross the invisible line! For other areas in the house, you can just press the button on the base to emit the noise whenever the cat does something you don't want her to do. You only really have to catch her a couple of times because they learn quickly to stop whatever they are doing. This machine worked wonders for our household and worked instantly without hurting the cat in any way. Hope this helps!

I actual have owned the two clawed and declawed kitties, and my 6yr previous that i've got had because of the fact start is declawed. i actually does not hassle approximately notwithstanding if the cat you elect to undertake has claws or not, somewhat elect the the terrific option character to your place. An obese cat might properly be positioned on a weight-help plan and workout recurring, so because it is not that huge a deal. He is additionally obese simply by being fixed which facilitates calm a cat down very almost to the area of being lazy which may make even human beings obese lol. i admire all cats yet while i could not take homestead the two cats, i might elect the calm, fat, declawed kitty because of the fact as you reported already, the different man or woman who's clawed is fairly self sustaining and can freak out as quickly as you got it homestead clawing up each and every thing in sight. notwithstanding if that's as much as you hunni... sturdy success!

There is a spray at the pet store that will discourage them from going near. Also put a chair in front of it for now. As he gets used to the scratching post he will lose interest in the bed. That was his "spot" and now he has to learn to love his new "spot". Like a favorite chair - it will take some time.

we trained our cat by getting down on the floor with it and scratched on the pole with our finger nails while they watched. The cat eventually quit clawing the furniture. You can also try associating a loud or piercing noise to frighten it when it claws, that will greatly depend on if you are there every time they claw the furniture.

One option you can consider is going to your vet and getting some special soft plastic caps that go over cats' claws. It's better than declawing them and a lot cheaper, and then it won't matter if your kitty tries to scratch at the bed.

Put the scratching post really close to the place they sleep, because most of the time they scratch right after they wake up from their nap. Whenever you see the kitty scratching furniture take it to the scratching post.

its just a natural way of cats...they like stratching so much....thats the way they are....i got a stratching post for my cat and she still scratched the corner of my bed or couch....but sometimes, when my cat does sumtihng wrong, i tap her on the nose, point to her, and say no! she learned and knows what it means....your kitten is still young, it will have alot of time to learn..its probably just no used to the rules yet...just gently tap his on the nose, point to him, and say no! or just carry it to the scratching post when its scratching ur bed....maybe try something that will frighten it a little bit (like some sound) so it wont wanna go back to scratch your bed....i do that to get my cat off the table or from stealing my food

hope that helped ;P

try stomping near the cat when it is clawing, or making an extemely loud noise when the cat is doing it

or you can squirt water at it, that also works for dogs

thats how we got our cats to stop jumping on the table and sleeping there.
