Well, taking into account that the average USMC squad has 13 men in it, and the average US Army squad has only 9, I would have to say that the USMC is better, based on quantity.

Just to clarify for DO, there are no "soldiers" in the Marine Corps, only Marines.

And, it is a tough comparison that many have already touched on. Our missions in the Corps was to react quickly, get in their quickly, and try to gain control of the situation at hand. This is done with a small force, usually outnumbered by a great deal. We would then maintain that control until the everyone else came rolling in. That is why one of our mottos is First to Fight.

A good example of this is Grenada. Marines were the first on the ground. Truthfully, we had everything taken care of by the time everyone else got there. The medical students were already recovered and safe when the Army got there. But, most of the time when you hear about Grenada, you hear of it as an Army undertaking.

Now, talking on the squad level, it is hard to also compare, as they have never fought each other. We used to play paintball against the other services. Usually, the most even "battles" were between the Army and USMC. We tended to win most of the time, but not always. But. then again, it was only paintball.

depends on the mission, to say one is better than the other is begging the question. Do you know the difference between the Marines and Army? The Marines are in direct control of the President if and when necessary. Who guard the President and our embassies? The Marines, because of their mission statement. Marines are geared to be a light mobile fighting unit and Army is geared to sustained action, however in the last few years with the light infantry Stryker brigades the lines are becoming blurred. Personally on a man to man basis, I do not want to piss either one off

The Marine Squad is larger (13), more heavily armed ( 3,SAW's) and more intensely trained in marksmanship, squad tactics, fire and maneuver, patroling and ambush.
The Army depends on heavy equipment to back up the infantry.

Soldiers in the Army, would obviously say Army Infantry and soldiers in the Marines would say Marine Infantry. My personal opinion is they're both the same, but the Marines is slightly better, I would assume so, since basic Marine training is more difficult than basic Army training.

Which results in stronger soldiers!

On average, the marine squad is better. The US Marines have no elite groups like the Army's Rangers, Green Berets, Delta Force, etc. The US Marines consider every marine to be elite, thus no need to form such groups.

Army has more firepower but the marines make every shot count. I'd give the edge to the Marines.

Army.
Less aggressive, smarter training.

But then again, it all depends on how cohesive each unit is.

So many other factors go into being "better".

Also, the Marines are primarily an "attacking" force, whereas the Army is primarily an "occupying" force.

Straight up answer? You are comparing apples to oranges. They have different missions, different training and different objectives/goals.
