What if every one of us is wrong and there is nothing but the here and now? (Not exactly what I believe, but just a thought. I'm still deciding what to believe in.)

The godbots are obsessed with religion because they're selfish.
There is no "god", but if there were, any "god" that is more concerned with you being a sycophant as opposed to be moral is not a "god" worthy of admiration by you, me or anyone. The "god" that "sends people to hell" is a vindictive psychopath. (So why should it surprise that many christians exhibit sociopathic behaviours?)
The godbots constantly spew the line, "Whatsoever you do to the least of my brothers, that you do unto me," but they sure as hell don't live it.
What does it mean? It means "how you treat other people is how you are treating jeebus!" In other words, all the talk about "I love my jeebus!" is worthless if you don't treat those around you with love and respect. Instead, the hardcore godbots get it backwards and worry only about saving their own butts from hellfire and do the opposite of what their mythical "jeebus" told them to do.
As I have said it so many times on this site:
Faith is how you treat your "god".
Morality is how you treat people.
The two are completely unrelated.
If there really were a "god" who was interested in us, no doubt it would be more concerned about what we do than what we believe.

People are obsessed with religion because it is one of the main aspects of civilisation. In fact, I would argue that it is as important as politics, of which it is also (almost always) a part. Whatever one's beliefs, no one can logically argue that religion does not have a tremendous impact on the course of events around the world. That is why people are obsessed with religion.

Life is ridiculous if it is but here and now. With no need of education, all animals live for here and now. If the mature humankind live like them, then what is the use of our rational sense, what is the use of education, what is the use of making plans for decades, for centuries and for longer, what is the use of philosophy, science, art, poetry and other aspects of culture?
Religon discloses to us about our eternal soul, our Creator, the One True God, our relation with Him and with His creation: this education raises man to the glorious station as a rational being. The true believers are not obsessed, they are educated.

I think the same way! I could be wrong but it's what I choose to believe. I think religion is just man made anyway. I tend to stay away from church and all that drama. If man is involved, there's usually corruption. Not to say every church is bad, just the ones I've experienced.

because its the biggest question mankind faces.
I think its our job to help mankind evolve spiritually and logically. If we just accept things we arent evolving at all. We NEED to discuss these things so we can, hopefully, get past this and more efficiently solve these problems rather than believing everthing we cant explain is majic. We need to answer things not just brush past hard issues with the easiest explanation.

If Christians are wrong and we die and nothing happens----what did we lose except the approval of a few folks""""" Hoever-----just suppose we are right-----then what????? WOW-----now that CAN make quite a difference------huh? I'll take my place getting persecuted I guess----so let me have it--------I want to dance on them streets of gold and eat from the tree of life rather than burn in that eternal lake of fire.We all will spend eternity somewhere------I do hope you make the right decision.

first as a song by adrea crouche? spelling of his name. however he puts it simple. even if there is no God i am still happy how i am living. i was once asked by a coworker this question. i responded first that there is no doubt. but then God told me what to say. so i said however even if not my life is still happier living as if God was real. i was into games and tv and other stuff instead of spending time with my wife and kids. i gave all that up to serve God as well as to spend more time with family and it was more then worth it. so even if not my life without all that stuff is so much happier and better. and ok so i die and i was wrong and did not know i was wrong.
however what if there is a God. i said to him what if it is true and you are wrong. i said see you are in a lose lose situation, he said why is that, so i said because if you are right then what you die and ok you did what all you wanted to on earth and now you are dead and it was all for nothing. might as well just die now. however if you are wrong you will know you are wrong.
for christians if we are wrong we wont know it. we will just end up dieing and that is it. but if we are right then we will know it.
so regarless if he really does exist or not i am still living a happier and better life for myself. but i know the truth. and thankfull for that. i am glad i am at a win win situation. yeah playing a video game was fun however it does not compare to playing a board game with my kids or playing catch or going to the park or bowling or baseball, or just chilling at home talking. we dont have tv so we spend even more time as well. nothing beats this. serving God and getting his blessings too is awesome as well.
and healings in Jesus name are free just takes faith. were as you can spend money on medicine that can be from a couple dollars to millions and most dont work most of it is you tricking your head they are working. like aids. they dont have a cure just a postpone of your death so to say. cost lots and lots of money to afford it. however they say those who eat and exercise and dont think about them having it last just as long if not longer then those who take the pills. and they dont spend as much. just like at the same time those who believe Jesus heals us were healed completely of aids for free just took faith. so i even get a benefit so even if he is not real i still get blessed a lot more then what i was. i used to get headaches and sick all the time now i might once a year. and most the time not long at all. our daughter used to be sick for a week every year at this time. last week she got sick my wife called the doctor they said she does this every year at this time it will last about a week. we went to church that night. same night and prayed over her and the next day completely healed. non believers cant explain any of it. but i can. and so can those who were healed. Jesus heals us today. and Jesus healed our daughter.
