Why do we have mother tongue and not father tongue?

In some paternal societies, the wife moves in with the husband and thus may have a different first language, or dialect, than the local language of the husband. Mother in this context probably originated from the definition of mother as source, or origin; as in mother-country or land.

That's because 99% the first word the baby speaks is amma/ma/mummy.And language is considered as female gender.And mother brings us to this earth undergoing gr8 pain the only tribute we give her is by calling it mother tongue & mother land but honestly this wont even come close by to the pain she undergoes
