My son recieved 9 stitches above his eyebrow i took him to the e.r. the dr. said to wait 5-7 days b4 removing, but i later found out that its 3-5 days for the face, so i waited the 7 days just to be sure well the skin grew over 3 of the stitches. Now there is no infection that i can see and i don't have medical ins. at this time what should i do?

the skin as in the scar has grown over 3 of the stitches @ the knots but the ends of all 3 are poking through i just can't get to the knots

keep it moist with antibiotic ointment.You can remove them yourself with a small pair of scissors and tweezers.Just sterilize them in boiling water for 20 min clip them at the knots and gently pull them out with the tweezers.I don't recommend it try a nurse at the health department its sad most of us can't afford insurance

The doctor wants to leave them in extra long, because he is worried about the healing and strength of the repaired tissues BENEATH the skin. That is also why he wants to remove only every-other stitch initially--this allows the tension to develop more gradually on the newly healing fibers. It also means that you will have more skin scarring, though, from the stitches. In the meantime, you should gently clean the stitches with hydrogen peroxide on a cosmetic pad. You can even leave the wet pad on there for a few minutes to soften them & remove any scabs. Then you need to grip the stitch by the knot and pull it very gently from one side of the incision to the other. If there is any bleeding, then wipe with hydrogen peroxide. when you finish with EACH stitch, then put triple antibiotic OINTMENT on the incision and stitches to keep them loose. Do this at LEAST daily. Some stitches may untie and simply fall out--DON'T WORRY about them. As long as you grab each stitch by the knot, it won't get lost under your skin. If you are too squeamish to do this, you WILL have MORE of a hassle getting those stitches out. You can do this yourself, without causing that much pain at all. In another two more weeks, if you just leave them alone, the nurse will be digging and poking like crazy to try and get those last 10 stitches out--like giant string splinters.

First u make sure that u can remove the stitch.Apply oil to the skin to make it soft and leave it for 3-4 hours. Keep a pair of siccors, plucker, some dettol and cotton. ur hands should not tremble.
cur the stitches on any one side and the next side. Then remove it with a plucker, and so on the others. Take special care where the skin have started coming.
Do not delay in doing, as the time goes more skin will start growing and u will find it difficult to remove, as it will be over the stitches.
If u find it difficult then GO TO THE DOCTOR.

It sounds like you are going to have to bring your son back to the doctor to at least get those ingrown stitches removed. Only a doctor is qualified to know if there's an infection or if the stitches are causing a serious health risk. Trying to remove the ingrown stitches yourself may cause serious bleeding, pain, or infection. It may also leave a scar.
Please specify: Are the three stitches completely overgrown with flesh as to where you can no longer see any of the stitch? Or are they only partially overgrown? Letting us know will help us give you better advice.

Tweezers, small scissors, and don't forget the important part, "PEROXIDE", add a little peroxide to the area first before you take them out, this will melt any "Scabs" that have gotten into the stitches, so removal is easier and less painful, you'll also need a good, bright light, go slow and easy.

take him back to the doctor and have the doctor remove them.
its really not a big deal as many have stitches way under the skin, usually they use absorbing kind of stiches these days. it's not a big deal as long as it's not infected. just see your doc.

take the stitches out your self with a tiny pair of scissors and a pair of tweezers,it won't hurt him

go to ur doctor nd get it removed.u trying to remove it might cause an infection n since d wound is on d face it wud leave a nasty scar if infected,so why take risk?

Get to the doctor, ASAP. The skin should NOT grow over the stitches...EVER!!!!
