I am not a religious person, and have nothing against religion, I just don't like it being pushed on me with their "sales people".

By the dictionary definition of a cult, pretty much all religions are:
cult /kʌlt/ Pronunciation Key - Show Spelled Pronunciation[kuhlt] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation
–noun 1. a particular system of religious worship, esp. with reference to its rites and ceremonies.
2. an instance of great veneration of a person, ideal, or thing, esp. as manifested by a body of admirers: the physical fitness cult.
3. the object of such devotion.
4. a group or sect bound together by veneration of the same thing, person, ideal, etc.
5. Sociology. a group having a sacred ideology and a set of rites centering around their sacred symbols.
6. a religion or sect considered to be false, unorthodox, or extremist, with members often living outside of conventional society under the direction of a charismatic leader.
7. the members of such a religion or sect.
8. any system for treating human sickness that originated by a person usually claiming to have sole insight into the nature of disease, and that employs methods regarded as unorthodox or unscientific.

But, if you look at cult as a small group that do not allow their people to study their own beliefs, expect them to follow blindly, give all their worldly wealth to their church, etc. Then no, JW's are not a cult. They may be radically different from most Christian sects, but that does not make them any less faithful or more strange. All religions have at least some element of truth.

Although people view them as weird, it would be incorrect to classify Jehovah's Witnesses as a cult.

A cult by definition would refer to a small group of people who follow a human being as leader. Persons in cults are anti-social and secretive.

Jehovah's Witnesses, on the other hand, have over 6 million active adherents that are located in every country on earth. They do not follow a human leader, but are followers of Jesus Christ. Obviously, Jehovah's Witnesses are not anti-social because they actively speak to people publically. Also, they are not secretive. Their meetings and services are always open to the public.

Jehovah's Witnesses are best known for speaking to others about God's Kingdom, from door to door. Interestingly, they are one of the very few religions that do this. Even though this type of work actually identifies footstep followers of Christ (who taught his disciples to do this). The Bible even mentions that the whole purpose of the Christian congregation is to speak to others about God. It says:

"But you are "a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for special possession, that you should declare abroad the excellencies of the one that called you out of darkness into his wonderful light" (1 Peter 2:9)

If you want to know why Jehovah's Witnesses preach from door to door it's because they are concerned for their neighbors.

Matthew 24:14
Acts 5:42; 20:20
Matthew 11:1
Romans 10:13-15

Jehovah's Witnesses are not selling anything. They leave their literature free of charge (donations are accepted but not required). They are simply hoping to reconcile people with God.

i believe all of christianity is a cult. because of the dictionary definition which says people worship and follow a human in their religion.
Jesus was cultish to the jews, he was also a prince of devils, a blasphemer, and seditious.
Jehovah witnesses are no different than the baptists. Both (all) religions are corrupted because of the flesh. All people follow their favorite teacher(s) and that makes it a cult.
but there are also the Secret combinations of religion that make religious beliefs a cult. secret societies that practice sorceries and witchcrafts are just as evil, and less known in the world, because in order to KNOW the secrets, you have to vow to be silent.
it is all an abomination.

What is your definition of a cult? My definition of a cult is a group who worships a personality. I'm not sure if JWs qualify as a cult, but I am still not fond of their early morning trips to my door.

According to records, Jehova witness does not entirely conform to the bible principles, that they have variance in their teaching. That's why a religion is said to be a cult, especially if it is spread through publications such as the Catch Tower.

They're a bunch of Cultists pure and simple....

But it sure is fun to meet them at the door and invite them in.

I try to keep a few books for them to read but I let them get comfortable on the couch first before I whip them out.

Funny thing is..... they leave immediately, they never come back, and not a single one has EVER taken one of those books with them. After a few weeks I stopped having ANY bible thumping visitors dropping by.....

Must have been my armpits....I KNEW I should have used deodorant that day...... It couldn't have been my triskele or pentacles everywhere..... could it?

It fits most of the characteristics of a cult, with secretiveness and exclusivity. Controled behaivior and unquestionable devotion as well. This is why I pitty these people.

I know they are.
From having their doctrine dictated by a president for life, to shunning those, even family, who disagree, they meet every criteria for determining a cult.
