I have items on my credit report that do not belong to me. What steps can I take to remove them?

The best way to do this is to go to one of the credit reporting agencies websites and open up an account. I use Experian and it's about 12 dollars a month. There are free ways of doing this but I found this way to be the most convenient. For that 12 dollars a month I get unlimited credit reports, I can dispute anything in my credit report and best of all I get all of my credit reports monitored, so if there is a new account opened with my social security number I get notified immediately.

It all works very well and it's definately worth the money. I disputed some incorrect information on my credit report and it was cleared up in no time. Experian also notified the other two credit reporting agencies and had it removed from their reports.

I assume you got your free credit reports. They have a page they provide that lets you dispute anything. It's very simple. They will fix errors
