Ok, lets settle this question with some hard facts.

In 2006

The active Army recruited 80,635 active Soldiers, 101% of its goal, the most since 1997. 7,000 more recruits than in 2005.

The Army Reserve recruited 25,378 Soldiers in 2006, 99.5% of its goal of 25,500 . 6,000 more recruits than in 2005.

The Army National Guard recruited 69,042 Soldier 98.6% of its goal, the most since 1992. 18,800 more than in 2005.

67,410 Soldiers reenlisted in the army in 2006, 105% of the goal of 64,200.

18,243 Soilders reenlisted in ther Army Reserves in 2006, 103% of its goal of 17,712 .

41,152 Soldiers reenlisted in the Army National Guard in 2006, 118% of its goal.

Overall, 175,000 people enlisted in 2006, more than 32,000 more than 2005.

It doesn't sound like any recruitment problems to me.

And this was accomplished while the End Strength of the Army active, reserve and national guard were all increased.

I hate to burst all the negative replies from the answer column here but.....1. the military doesn't want 5 million enlistees. 2. there is no dod budget to fund this endeavor. After the cold war was fading out and then over, the military phazed out many brigades of soldiers, marines etc. There was no need for all the ground pounders. The size of any military fluctuates due to demand 3. many more people join than make it through basic trainig/boot camp than many people realize. Oh, and there are always the real smart kids that get turned away b/c of drugs, arrests, etc. Also, there are kids that get turned away. YES!!!! believe it, the military DOES NOT WANT YOU if you cant see, hear, run, read, shoot, follow really simple rules and regulations. So in reality, people are lining up. The proud and patriotic men and women of this country that are defending ignorant individuals that don't appriciate their sacrifices.

Because bitter anti-American democrats are filling their heads with illusions that if they join they'll die.

Just look at this month's cover of Time Magazine.

Our current total death rate for the last 6 years is like 3200 out of 3 million total membership. That's about a 1/10 % chance of being killed, war zones included.

What kind of person does it take to completely subvert the truth and intentionally discourage Americans from fighting a necessary war such as this?

Well, the military claims it has met or exceeded all their recruitment goals for 2006. Our military is a volunteer Army, so we never have several million people serving. BUT, if they reinstitue the draft, then you will see the millions and millions of young people in the military.

Some people dont want to join their military because they dont care about their government. Ohters are too lazy and some people just have other things in mind.

I think that I will be joining the army and i will go to college to become a Psychologist. I would love to serve my country.

A lot of people dont support the war here. So they dont want to help their fellow Americans in the war. I care about my country and I would die for it.

It's not like it was before. Young adults even old adults, don't care about anything. During WW2, teenagers lied about their age just so they can be able to join the Military. You don't see anything like that now a days. It's just sad, most people only join for college money.

I'm joining, not because I need college money, because I care about my damn country.

Stop critizing and insulting our soldiers. That just shows how pathetic you are. And I dare you, say that to a soldiers face and watch what happens. If I was in uniform and someone dared to insult me or my fellow soldiers, I'd break both your legs.

Also for the people wanting to join, God Bless. Without brave men and women like you, the United States wouldn't have a Military.

People don't relize, there are other jobs in the Military. People think every job in the military involves shooting a gun. It doesn't. And people complain about pay, which I find funny because, in the Military the starting pay is three times better than what you would make at Mcdonalds.

If you wanted a career in the Military an you were an Officer, you could be making well over one hundred thousand dollars a year, ontop of that you get a FOOD ALLOWANCE, and free housing. Which means you get money a month for food, an you get a free house to live in, the Military has the best benefits, try finding the benefits the Military gives at Mcdonalds, or even BurgerKing.

You are a scumbag, surfing here for the other morons who demand their rights but want others to fight for them. You do no research for your "questions",because if you did you would find out that our military does meet recruiting goals. You are retired with 6 whole years in the military and another 24 with the DoD.If it was and is so bad,why didn't YOU find another job?

I agree. Due to the stupidity of so called Americans such as yourself, and the right given to spout out anti American garbage, we now have a generation of people that do not care about us as a nation, and have no will to fight for our nation. I personally think that you should be tried for treason, but that's my opinion. But, I can foreword your SN with a note to look into your activities and questions on here to homeland security.

PROUD AMERICAN

Why aren't ALL of the able bodied war supporters between 18 and 42 joining? Maybe they don't support it that much...
