Sleep research data indicates that adolescents require 9 to 10 hours of sleep per night. However, the majority of adolescents aren't getting that, which is why excessive daytime sleepiness in this population has become a widespread problem. Inadequate sleep and excessive sleepiness can have a profound negative effect on health, school performance, cognitive function and mood, and has also been associated with other serious consequences such as increased incidence of automobile crashes.
According to the report entitled, "Excessive Sleepiness in Adolescents and Young Adults: Causes, Consequences, and Treatment Strategies," most cases of excessive sleepiness result from insufficient sleep caused by insufficient time in bed and are associated with intrinsic changes in the sleep/wake cycle. Also involved are external pressures to go to bed later and wake up earlier. Although these factors are the most common reason for lack of sleep, they may not be the only reason. Depression, obstructive sleep apnea, insomnia, narcolepsy and other sleep disorders, medications, and stimulants such as caffeine can also cause impaired sleep quality and daytime sleepiness.
Kids are sitting and listening in class and it's easier to zone out and fall asleep. After class, there is more noise, stimulation, and activity. It's much easier for kids to stay awake between classes!

Students like me get bored easily when the teacher is very boring. Here why it is so hard to stay awake in class.
Because of our brain sensors ,where the capacity of one students to be alert on their class is only 30 - 40 minutes. The best way to get rid of dizziness is to eat chocolates. Chocolates contains Caffeines that stimulates brain development on alertness.

If a kid fell asleep in class would a teacher let them stay in that class when it was over to finish sleeping? Nope, that is why they get up and leave.
Kids fall asleep in class for two reasons. one because they are really tired and two class is SO boring.

The student gets tired and wants to sleep because the class is boring as hell to the student. Either the teacher needs to find a more interactive, interesting way to teach the class, or the student needs to just deal with it (if it is a required course) and do their best to pass the class. If the class is not required, the student either needs to get to bed earlier or pick a class that caters to their interests.

i think it means the class is not interesting enough...usually if the teacher talks too much instead of getting the kids up to do some activity work...most of the students will zone out till the class is over...good luck
