How long does it take to rank up in the Military?

Can anyone in the Military be a squad/platoon leader, or only Officers?

What are the highest ranks in the Military other than Admirals/Generals that don't participate in wars?

The only way to become an Officer is to have a college degree, or no?

Will an Associates degree, do anything for me in the Military?

Thanks, I have a couple more years before I can join the Military
(Under age)..

Depends on the person, the job and the branch of service. The Army is the fastest promoting and the Air Force the slowest. But like I say there will be differences based on job specialty and personallity.

Only an officer, usually a 2nd LT or 1st LT can be a platoon leader. A squad leader is an enlisted position and normally held by a Sergeant or Staff Sergeant (1st Squad)

I don't really get what you mean. Do you mean out on the battlefield? Many high ranking positions do not actively engage in close combat just because they need to be in command and control, but this doesn't mean they don't participate.

The only way to become an Officer is to have a college degree, or no? Yes to be an Officer in the US Military you must have a college degree, associate degree (2 yr) minimum. This doesn't mean the enlisted force is uneducated. If you want to make the higher enlisted ranks you better have college also. And many college grads join as enlisted.

Will an Associates degree, do anything for me in the Military?
Just like in the civilian world degrees help to obtain better employment. But the most important thing is how you do on the ASVAB test.

If you are thinking about a career in the military think about what you would like to do and head that direction. Planning on college, check into some of the military colleges or schools with strong ROTC backgrounds.

Good luck and god bless

Anyone can be a squad leader if they show sound judgment and concern for his troops and his mission, when you say don't participate in war what do you mean? all military people are involved from a cook to a Chaplin on down the line, the only difference is their role. You can go to school and become a warrant officer, they are normally nco's who have a specialty field like helicopter pilots. a AA degree can help but in the military common sense goes a long way.

Well, there is a lot of determining factors to promotions. A lot of it has to do with availability within your MOS for promotions. Also, your pft, general track record, reccomendations, rifle scores, etc. you see what I mean? OK. No not just anyone can be a squad/platoon leader. You are specifically asking about infantry positions. These are held for higher enlisted personnel, people with experience....etc. Yeah, you need a degree to be an officer. However there are also warrant officers who came from the enlisted ranks(its takes years to achieve this). No, in reality an associates degree won't do squat. Go to school, its good for you!

Starting rank is also sometimes determined by how "in demand" you are. My father started his career in the army as a Captain because he was a lawyer. Doctors, Nuclear Techs, Engineers and such also have preference.
